City’s Spring Break Camp engages participants with hands-on STEM projects

Press release from Uvalde Parks & Recreation Department

March 9, 2026

Our Spring Break Camp was a tremendous success, with children from first to seventh grade enjoying a variety of enriching activities. Participants embarked on our Nature Academy outdoor exploration adventures along the Leona Walking Trail, enhancing their appreciation for the natural world. A veteran and National Honor Society members volunteered at the camp to assist campers with their projects.

Throughout the camp, attendees engaged in hands-on STEM projects, including building an electrical windmill. Creative expression flourished with fun arts and crafts, where children designed and built their own nature water rafts, nature hiking sticks, and birdhouses. Additionally, a mini basketball camp provided an opportunity for physical activity and teamwork. Participants enjoyed delicious food and snacks generously provided by our sponsors and donors, including FoxyCakes, Jenny’s Ice Cream & Snacks, and Starbucks.

We are excited to announce that our preparations for Summer Camp are underway. We look forward to offering even more thrilling adventures.
