May 24th- a comparison of the same date one year apart

The Uvalde Downtown Plaza is filled with visitors and the media

One year ago at 11:43 AM Robb Elementary School was under siege. One year later,  a group of Catholic priests are joined with others praying around the Robb Elementary School site. With television satellite trucks parked at nearby residences and on the side of streets near Robb School, the world’s attention is once again on Uvalde.  One year ago shortly before noon, the clock was ticking marking the time of the infamous 77 minutes. Television trucks had not arrived yet.

One year ago, the chopping sounds of helicopter rotor blades filled the air.  Today, a lone helicopter could be heard flying overhead.

One year ago, today, Uvalde CISD Superintendent Hal Harrell was seen near the police lines on Old Carrizo Road.  Today, around noon, Uvalde CISD Superintendent Gary Patterson stands on the corner of the Robb Elementary School sign at Geraldine Street and Old Carrizo Road

One year ago today at noon the clock was still marking the infamous 77 minutes. Today, a group standing in solidarity with Surviving teacher Arnulfo Arnie Reyes stood holding orange flags on the corner of Highway 9o and Highway 83 standing on the edge of the town square downtown Uvalde marking he 77 minutes that elapsed last year.

One year ago today, information about what was happening was incomplete. Misinformation spread on social media.  Today, the reality of 19 children and two teachers is well known, Their names are known around the world.

One year ago today at 9 AM, if you asked anyone in the United States to name a city or town in Texas, big cities like Dallas, Austin, San Antonio or Houston might come to mind. At the end of the day one year ago, much of the world would learn about Uvalde.

After May 24th, 2022, Uvalde was irrevocably changed.

There are still questions left to be answered. Hearts were shattered,

A year later, the town mourns, reflects and prays today. The town is on the long journey of restoration and healing.
