On Tuesday May 12th, 2026, the Uvalde Hesperian published an article about the City’s February 24th official announcement on the sale of City owned land to Amazon.
Just to clear something up — the story was never about keeping the deal confidential during negotiations. That part is normal, and NDAs make sense while they’re still trying to close the deal.
What the article focused on was the public announcement after the City Council voted to approve the sale on Feb. 24.
At that point, Amazon dictated a very short scripted statement for the mayor to read, told the city to direct all questions to their PR team, and even reminded everyone about the NDA for public records.
Residents basically got short vague sentence and nothing else on jobs, timeline, traffic, or any other impacts.
That’s the part a lot of people in Uvalde are wondering about
