After a pause for the pandemic in 2020-2022, the 2023 4th Annual Continental Tire STEAM Expo is back in a big way! (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics)
The event will feature over 30 exhibits or more accurately, learning stations for students of all ages to participate. Exhibits will be indoors and outdoors.
The Expo will be held at the El Progreso Memorial Library on Saturday, April 22nd, 2023 from 9am to 2 PM.
Many if not most of the exhibits are “hands-on” and offer learning opportunities and challenges provided by area colleges, businesses and non-profit organizations with a variety of STEAM experiences.
Some of the highlights for this year’s event include special guest, Artist Henry Sanchez who will be bringing a nature based micro-art project where participating students collect tiny pebbles, twigs, leaves and seeds and then arrange them into an art under a special microscopes where the respective student’s art will be printed for each to take with them.
Sul Ross University will be bringing its STEM Van and different STEM experiences.
Uvalde Memorial Hospital will have five learning stations with different medical exhibits.
Medina Electric Cooperative will be bringing back its Live-wire demonstration which, fortunately, is not hands on but professional linemen will be demonstrating the power of high voltage electricity and why safety is critical.
Summit Landscaping will have an outdoor STEM experience about landscaping science and technology
and for something brand new, there will be an old-technology exhibit with obsolete technology to experience and see!
Students will receive a free welcome bag with small gifts, a “Passport to Learning “which each participant will take to the various STEAM exhibits which will be stamped. Passports will then be turned back in for a chance to win door prizes, Two telescopes will be among several door prizes.
There will be a special event T-shirt students can purchase or win as a door prize.
The Event is Free and open to all students including public school students, private school students and homeschooling students. Families, teachers and the general public are welcome to attend.
STEAM Expo Director Michael Robinson is expecting over 500 participants this year as the last two events in 2018 and 2019 had over 300 in attendance each year.
The 4th Annual STEAM Expo is a grassroots community led event with MANY volunteers who are passionate about bringing engaging STEAM Learning Experience to our area students.
