After two weeks of early voting yielding only 17 votes. local voters turned out in large numbers on Election Day, pushing the $3.75 million school bond to a 54-54 tie that resulted in its defeat.

Saturday night final unofficial election results were not released until late into the evening by the Uvalde County Elections office.

“A tie vote in an election on a measure (i.e., a proposition election with for and against votes) means the measure failed, because there were no more votes for the measure than against it. There is no automatic recount procedure, because Chapter 216 of the Code, which regulates automatic recounts, only applies to candidate elections.”
