Press release from Chicanos Por La Causa’s Uvalde Head Start Center

10-28-25

In the spirit of Fall and Halloween, Chicanos Por La Causa’s Uvalde Head Start Center received a generous pumpkin donation from a local H-E-B store. This has allowed the classroom to turn into a hands-on learning activity for creativity.

Children have been exploring pumpkins in ways that go beyond decoration. Through these festive activities they’re:

  • Building motor skills while painting
  • Discovering science concepts through textures and smells
  • Developing early math skills through sorting and counting pumpkins of different sizes

These activities also foster social and emotional development as well as communication; proving that pumpkins can make learning fun!

For over 30 years, the Head Start Center has supported local families, now serving about 50 children ages six weeks to five years. Operated by CPLC since 2021, the center provides early education and family services that prepare children for school and lifelong success.
