Area landowners and property owners and others attended the CPS Energy Open House held Wednesday evening in the Commissioners Auditorium at the Uvalde County Fairplex.
People were seen gathering around numerous displays with information about the different aspect of a new project called the Howard-Solstice Transmission line project that would involve over 300 miles of new transmission line being built over several counties including Uvalde County.
The finalized transmission line routes will be selected at a future date.
It appeared many wanted to see if the land they own might be on a transmission route. According to the official website for the project, property chosen to be included would be secured through an easement process. If an agreement between project officials and landowners cannot be reached, eminent domain could be used to acquire the land.
One person with a family from Utopia told the Hesperian that some of the proposed routes being considered would affect some of the most beautiful parts of the Texas Hill Country.
Another individual with the group attending the open house asked why an Open House format was chosen and he said he would have preferred a Question-and-Answer time following an official presentation to an audience so concerns from individual citizens could be heard by everyone.
When the Hesperian asked what prompted the need for this massive project, The officials the Hesperian spoke with did affirm the project was needed but no one specific reason was given other than to provide needed electricity to customers.
The Uvalde Hesperian asked if an official present at the open house would be willing to go on camera for a brief interview, no one there would but it was suggested the Hesperian reach out to a public relations official that was not at the open house.
