Shares Texas Ties and Wide-Eyed Excitement for a New Era

 Article submitted by Uvalde Radio

Best known for his blue-collar anthems and patriotic spirit, Aaron Tippin rose to prominence in the early 1990s with a string of hits that helped define the era. His career highlights include three No. 1 singles on the Billboard country charts—”There Ain’t Nothin’ Wrong with the Radio,” “That’s as Close as I’ll Get to Loving You,” and “Kiss This”—along with numerous Top 10 hits and a reputation as one of country music’s most authentic voices.
Now, more than a decade since his last new release, Tippin is back with fresh music—and a renewed sense of excitement that feels as vibrant as ever.
During a May 6 interview on the Robert Miguel Morning Show on UvaldeRadio.net, Tippin spoke candidly about his long-awaited return, his new single “American Sky,” and his enduring connection to Texas.
First New Music in Over 10 Years
Tippin confirmed that “American Sky” marks his first new release in roughly a decade, ending a lengthy period focused primarily on touring.
“I just kind of got really comfortable with touring,” Tippin said. “Playing the old hits and putting on shows… but when the opportunity came along, we realized we still had something left in us.”
T  hat opportunity arrived through a partnership with 8 Track Entertainment, a label he says has shown strong support for artists from the 1990s era. The collaboration has already produced a full album, currently in the final stages of completion, with additional singles expected to roll out in the coming months.
Adapting to a Changed Music Industry
For Tippin, returning to the studio after so many years has meant navigating a dramatically different music landscape.
“It’s all new stuff to me,” he said, laughing about modern practices like lyric videos and staggered single releases. “Back in the day, we made records differently. Now it’s one song at a time, and it’s a whole new way of doing things.”
Despite the learning curve, Tippin appears energized by the shift. His enthusiasm was especially evident when discussing one milestone he never experienced during his original run: a vinyl release.
“This will be the first time I’ve ever had vinyl,” he said. “I can’t wait to see that.”
The upcoming album is expected to be pressed on vinyl—a nod to both nostalgia and the format’s resurgence among music fans.
“American Sky” and a Patriotic Milestone
The new single “American Sky,” co-written by Tippin’s son, blends the artist’s signature patriotism with another lifelong passion: aviation.
A licensed pilot long before his rise in country music, Aaron Tippin brings that love of flight directly into the song’s imagery and its accompanying music video. The video prominently features Tippin’s own antique airplanes, along with scenes of his family, creating a deeply personal visual to match the track’s uplifting message.
Lyrically, “American Sky” soars with themes of freedom and possibility, echoing both national pride and the boundless feeling of flight. Lines like “There’s a spirit in the wind / It can take us to the moon and back again… where freedom fills the air” and “Just take that leap of faith and learn to fly” reinforce the connection between aviation and the broader idea of American freedom.
The release also arrives at a meaningful moment, as the nation prepares to celebrate the United States Semiquincentennial. Tippin expressed genuine excitement about the milestone, describing it as a once-in-a-lifetime occasion.
“Two hundred and fifty years of being free—this is incredible,” he said. “I’m just beside myself to be alive at this time in our country’s history.”
With “American Sky,” Tippin manages to merge his patriotic roots with his personal story as a pilot, giving the song both emotional lift and authentic perspective.
A Strong Connection to Southwest Texas
While Tippin calls Tennessee home, he made it clear that Texas—particularly the region around Uvalde—holds a special place in his life.
“We go to that part of Texas quite a bit,” he said, noting frequent visits for hunting trips and time spent with friends in the area. “I’m there two or three times a year.”
His familiarity with Southwest Texas—and enthusiasm for returning—resonated strongly with local listeners, reinforcing the personal connection between the artist and the region.
Still Energized After Decades on Stage
Even after more than three decades in the industry, Tippin shows no signs of slowing down. He continues to tour regularly, performing with a longtime band and maintaining a high-energy live show.
“I always tell folks, wear your seatbelt,” he said. “We have a good time.”
That same energy now carries into his return to recording—something Tippin approaches with what can only be described as a renewed, almost wide-eyed excitement.
With “American Sky” leading the way and a full album on the horizon, Tippin’s comeback blends experience, nostalgia, and a genuine curiosity about today’s music world.
For fans in Uvalde and across Texas, it’s a welcome return from a country music mainstay who still clearly loves what he does—and is eager to share it in a whole new era.

UVALDE — Community, conservation and local heritage came together Friday evening as residents gathered in the heart of downtown for UvaldeRadio.net’s Trees & Bees Party On The Plaza, a celebration honoring Arbor Day and Uvalde’s enduring identity as the Honey Capital of the World.
Held from 6 to 9 p.m. beneath the mature oak and pecan trees of the downtown plaza, the event transformed the historic square into a lively community gathering space framed by the Uvalde Grand Opera House and the County Courthouse. The evening also marked the latest installment of UvaldeRadio.net’s monthly Party On The Plaza vendor market, held every final Friday of the month, with this edition centered on the intertwined importance of trees, bees and natural resources in the region.
The event coincided with Arbor Day and served as a reminder of Uvalde’s heritage as a designated Tree City USA community. Organizers emphasized the ecological, historical and economic roles trees and pollinators play in Southwest Texas, where agriculture, native brushland and conservation remain deeply connected.
Local and regional vendors filled the plaza offering artisan goods, food, drinks, crafts, and potted plants and trees, while the Texas Master Naturalists Brush Y Canyons chapter shared information about its mission to develop well-informed volunteers dedicated to education, outreach and stewardship of natural resources and natural areas across Texas communities.
On the honey side of the celebration, local honey vendors were also featured, including The Blinged Buck, UvaldeRadio.net’s official Uvalde Honey partner, offering its 100 percent raw Uvalde Brush Honey. The event also welcomed Uvalde County Honey Queen Cashlyn Varnon, who posed for photos with residents, autographed 8×10 photos, and handed out golden paper crowns to children, making them honorary princes and princesses for the evening.
During a short interview conducted by UvaldeRadio.net Promotions Assistant Mercedez, Varnon spoke about her pride in representing Uvalde and the importance of drawing attention to the region’s bee population and honey industry. Known for producing high-quality honey from the nectar of guajillo brush, Uvalde’s honey industry remains a defining part of the area’s identity, agriculture and culture.
Varnon also announced the return of the Uvalde Honey Festival, set for April 8-11, 2027, when the annual event—canceled for 2026—is expected to return as an expanded four-day celebration.
UvaldeRadio.net Program Director Robert Miguel Rodriguez, who organized the event, emceed the evening, conducted giveaways and introduced special guests City of Uvalde Mayor Hector R. Luevano and Rachel Sarlls, regional urban ecologist with the Texas A&M Forest Service for the San Antonio region.
Mayor Luevano addressed attendees with an official Arbor Day proclamation, reflecting on the holiday’s origins in 1872, when the Nebraska Board of Agriculture first established a day devoted to planting trees. He also spoke about Uvalde’s past recognition as a Tree City USA community and the importance of renewing that civic spirit.
In one of the evening’s most memorable moments, the mayor quoted Isaiah 61:3, saying residents “may be called the oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified,” drawing a parallel between the strength, stability and long life symbolized by oak trees and the enduring spirit of the Uvalde community.
Mayor Luevano then presented the framed proclamation to Sarlls, who encouraged residents to recognize the vital role trees play in everyday life. She pointed to the shade the trees provided during the event, noted the pecans scattered in the grass and invited the crowd to take a deep breath and appreciate the oxygen created by the trees surrounding them.
Following the event, Sarlls praised the community’s efforts.
“It is amazing to have a community come together to celebrate not only trees for Arbor Day but honey as well, two things that go hand in hand,” Sarlls said. “Our pollinators and trees help support each other, the planet, and us and our communities. Bringing the community together to connect with nature is always a worthwhile cause. Trees help clean our air and water, provide shade, and also just simply make people happy. Thank you for celebrating trees and proclaiming April 24th as Uvalde Arbor Day. It was an honor to be a part of the celebration. Keep moving forward in celebration everything you have grown and everything future generations will plant.”
The proclamation was met with cheers before music resumed and the plaza returned to the sounds of conversation, laughter and shopping. Families lingered into the cooler spring evening, children gathered fallen pecans beneath the trees, and residents enjoyed the sense of shared community as the sun set over downtown.
Organizers said the event reflected how conservation and community can go hand in hand, linking Uvalde’s agricultural roots, environmental stewardship and civic pride.
UvaldeRadio.net will continue its monthly Party On The Plaza series with a School’s Out Party On The Plaza scheduled for May 29, coinciding with Uvalde High School graduation, followed by an America 250 Party On The Plaza celebrating the semiquincentennial birthday of the United States the weekend before July 4.

A rainy afternoon couldn’t dampen the energy in downtown Sabinal on March 7, as the grand opening celebration for Rustic Charm by The Ranch Wife brought together local businesses, musicians, and community members. During a live broadcast from the event, Robert Miguel of Uvalde Radio welcomed a surprise guest to the microphone—Sabinal native and rising musician Kay O’Neill.

O’Neill had just wrapped up a performance earlier that afternoon at Fort Clark Days in nearby Brackettville. After finishing her set, she made the short drive to Sabinal to show her support for the newly reopened boutique and to stop by the live radio broadcast.
“We got rained on the last 30 minutes,” O’Neill said of her performance at the festival. “But it was so much fun—the crowd was amazing.”
The sudden shift in weather created some chaos at the outdoor event, with wind knocking over a canopy and performers scrambling to protect equipment. Still, O’Neill described the show as a success and praised the enthusiastic audience that attended the long-running living history festival.

A Hometown Musician on the Rise

Though currently attending college, O’Neill remains closely connected to her hometown music scene. The Sabinal native has been performing regularly across the Texas Hill Country, building a reputation as a talented young singer-songwriter.
In the interview, she shared that recent performances have taken her to venues in towns like KerrvilleBandera, and Comfort. One of her most consistent gigs is a weekly Thursday night performance at La Calabria Pizzeria, where she hosts an open jam-style music night.
“It’s been great meeting so many other musicians,” O’Neill said. “That’s probably been one of the best parts.”
She also announced an upcoming milestone performance—her first appearance at the well-known San Antonio venue Sam’s Burger Joint, where she will open for a friend’s band later this month.

Balancing Music and College

While music remains an important passion, O’Neill is also approaching the final stretch of her college career. She revealed during the interview that she is entering her final year of school and studying accounting.
“I’m in the home stretch,” she said. “One more semester.”
As she looks toward graduation, O’Neill is currently seeking internship opportunities in accounting while continuing to perform and write music. She hopes to keep music as a meaningful part of her life even as she explores professional opportunities in her field of study.
“I’m going to leave my plans open and let God bring whatever I need to be doing,” she said.

New Music on the Way

Fans of O’Neill’s music won’t have to wait long for new material. She shared that she was scheduled to record the final vocals and guitar parts for a new demo the day after the interview, with hopes of releasing it within the next month or two—potentially in time for summer.
During the broadcast, listeners also heard her song “Bluebonnets,” which she wrote during an earlier college spring break after a reflective drive through Texas wildflower country.
“I realized I was trying to hold onto things that I had already grown out of,” O’Neill explained about the inspiration behind the song.

Supporting a New Local Business

O’Neill said she was excited to see the new Rustic Charm store open in downtown Sabinal and praised its welcoming atmosphere.
“I think it’s amazing,” she said. “It’s super convenient—they have so many things for people going to the river, which I feel like we really needed here.”
She also complimented the shop’s new owner and her enthusiasm for the community.
“The few times we’ve talked, she’s been super sweet and really wants to see the community blossom,” O’Neill said.
The grand opening celebration for Rustic Charm by The Ranch Wife included live music, vendors, and giveaways while Uvalde Radio broadcast live from the event throughout the afternoon.
O’Neill is also expected to appear later this year at Uvalde Radio’s seasonal Friday Night Live showcase series in Uvalde, continuing her growing presence on stages across the region.

Program Director Robert Miguel capitalized on the moment, introducing UvaldeRadio.net’s third station, Uvalde Radio HITS

Press release from UvaldeRadio.net

Cory Brooks and Robert Miguel at the 14th annual Texas Regional Radio Music Awards (TRRMA)

UVALDE, Texas – For the first time in its short existence, UvaldeRadio.net nabbed the top honors in its category at the 14th annual Texas Regional Radio Music Awards (TRRMA) this past week.
Announced on Monday, March 25, at Texas Live! In Arlington, Texas, the nearly five-year-old station was named the Best Internet Radio Station, after three consecutive years of earning a top 5 finalist
designation for the award. UvaldeRadio.net Program Director and morning jock Robert Miguel and afternoon host and news director Cory Brooks broadcasted live from the event and accepted the award
in person.

“I just want to thank everyone who nominated, voted and made us the number one internet radio station in the Texas Country and Red Dirt industry,” said Miguel.

“We are just so proud to have gone all the way this time around and bring some hardware to where we live, work and play – Uvalde, Texas! We also want to thank God, the artists who write and record the music we play, and radio promotors who share that music and facilitate artist interviews and appearances. Finally, thanks to the people of Uvalde. It’s an honor to program a station dedicated to this community’s unique needs and musical tastes.”

The TRRMAs is a fan-voted awards ceremony that honors the accomplishments and contributions of Texas Country music and radio professionals. The 2024 ceremony proved to be a star-studded event
with appearances by the biggest names in Texas music.

This included Wade Bowen, who took home Male Vocalist of the Year, Single of the Year, and Song of the Year awards at the event. Bri Bagwell nabbed awards for Female Vocalist and Music Video, Randy
Rogers Band took Band of the Year and Album of the Year honors while Kevin Fowler accepted the new Icon Award for his contributions of advancing the popularity of Texas Country and Pat Green received
the T3R Humanitarian Award.

After thanking sponsors who support UvaldeRadio.net – an abundance of community partners who Miguel says have supported the station’s vision since its birth – Miguel made another milestone
announcement.

On April 1, UvaldeRadio.net will debut it’s third format serving Uvalde County: Uvalde Radio HITS. The sister station will feature classic pop of the 80s and 90s and more, and will also offer the perfect “listen

at work” playlist for those looking for musical variety and a break from UvaldeRadio.net’s full country format or the harder edge of its other sister station, Uvalde Radio ROCKS.

“I’m so excited to roll out this new format,” said Miguel. “Uvalde Radio HITS will offer the absolute biggest and best mix of variety from over 40 years of hits. You’ll get the perfect blend of retro with just
enough of the hottest current tracks to keep things from getting too repetitive, plus all the great community information that our other stations deliver to our Uvalde audience.”

Core artists from the 1980s will include the likes of Michael Jackson, Madonna, Bryan Adams, Bon Jovi, and Duran Duran. Jumping to the 90s, artists like Alanis Morissette, Mariah Carey, Hootie & The
Blowfish, Whitney Houston, & Green Day will be featured. Uvalde Radio HITS will feature many one-hit wonders from both decades and hits of the 2000s, 2010s, and the latest chartbusters of the 2020s. The
newly-minted station will also feature the same national and local news, weather, sports, and community information for Uvalde, TX residents.

Uvalde Radio HITS can be streamed from the Uvalde Radio main site at UvaldeRadio.net or from it’s direct link at uvalderadio.net/hits Uvalde Radio HITS can also be heard on the Live365 app for iPhone or
Android and Roku. With the introduction of Uvalde Radio HITS, UvaldeRadio.net cements itself as the definitive source for English-language radio programming for Uvalde, Texas and the surrounding areas.

Press Release By UvaldeRadio.net Staff

On Tuesday, August 16th at 10:00 am, Bret Michaels – famed lead-singer of the multi- platinum-selling rock band Poison – called in to UvaldeRadio.net for an interview with longtime friend and radio jock, Robert Miguel. The two first developed a kinship in the early 90’s when Bret would join the veteran rock jock on-air during Robert’s 10+ year stint at Dallas/Fort Worth Active Rock station KEGL 97.1 The Eagle.

The recent radio reunion was simulcast on stations UvaldeRadio.net and Uvalde Radio ROCKS, which follow a Country Music and Active Rock format, respectively. Robert Miguel launched UvaldeRadio.net in 2019, quickly followed by Uvalde Radio ROCKS in 2021, doing so after moving back to his hometown in 2017. Both stations strive tirelessly to provide a platform for elevating the voices, narratives, and cultures that make Uvalde a beautiful and unique corner of Texas.

The 30+ minute interview’ s primary focus was to discuss Poison’s appearance on the 2022 Stadium Tour, which also features Motley Crue, Def Leppard, and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts. The Live Nation tour is making its way to nearby San Antonio, Texas on Sunday, August 21st at the Alamodome, followed by Arlington, Texas on Monday, August 22nd at Globe Life Field.

Other topics included Bret’ s solo music and planned 2023 “ Parti -Gras ” Bret Michaels Band tour, his latest bestselling Auto-Scrap-Ography book, his iconic reality television shows such as the record-breaking hit show Rock Of Love on VH1 and NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice.  Honored twice as Humanitarian of the Year by the Hollywood Christmas Parade, Michaels is known as a rockstar with a heart. His Life Rocks Foundation supports diabetic children, wounded warriors, veterans and pet-related causes around the globe. All of these are causes close to Michaels’ heart as a lifelong type 1 diabetic, son of a veteran and pet lover.

The segment was also highlighted by intermittent broadcasts of Poison hits and Bret’s solo music, including his latest hit song Unbroken, a power-ballad co-written with his teenage daughter Jorja Michaels. While the tune was inspired by what Bret called “a tough time in life as a teenage girl”, he went on to explain that the song ultimately became about “going through adversity and finding light at the end of the tunnel”.

The lyrics will surely resonate with the Uvalde community, who tragically lost 21 lives in a school shooting on May 24. During the interview Bret took pause to grieve with Uvalde.

“There’s not enough I can say from my heart and soul to the families of the victims,” he said. He went on to offer to do “something amazing for the families, which we’ ll discuss on- or off-the-record.”

Off-air, Bret went an extra step for the community and, in a pleasant and generous surprise, extended an invitation to the families of the Robb Elementary School shooting to be his and partner Live Nation ‘s guests at the San Antonio stop of The 2022 Stadium Tour.

The Bret Michaels Life Rocks Foundation will secure tickets to the show on Sunday, August 21 at the Alamodome. UvaldeRadio.net, in cooperation with the City of Uvalde, has begun to reach out to the families. Families can contact Sorayda Sanchez at City of Uvalde at cityhall@uvaldetx.gov or Robert Miguel at Uvalde Radio ROCKS at rock@uvalderadio.net .

UvaldeRadio.net and Bret Michaels Entertainment also issued a joint statement in relation to the offer:

“We know that nothing will recoup the unimaginable loss that these families experienced on May 24th. We also understand that they will be grieving for a length of time that cannot be measured. However, we are looking forward to doing anything we can to help ease the pain these families are feeling – through the healing power of music and an entertaining experience that’s just down the road from their homes. It is the least that our two entities can do for this amazing community. Beyond that, this is also an opportunity to celebrate the lives of the victims and their long-lasting presence in all of our hearts.”
