Uvalde, TX — The Uvalde Police Department (UPD) has made significant strides in a recent
investigation involving a vehicle burglary and a subsequent shooting incident, thanks to
rapid response, interagency collaboration, and crucial assistance from the community.
Last week, UPD received a report of a vehicle burglary within city limits, during which a
firearm was stolen from an unlocked vehicle. Prompt action by the Patrol Division led to
the identification of a potential suspect.

Within 24 hours, a separate shooting incident occurred. Through continued investigation
and community cooperation, UPD detectives identified and apprehended two individuals
connected to both the burglary and the shooting within 16 hours. Further investigation led
to the arrest of two additional suspects involved in the shooting.
This successful operation was supported by the Texas Department of Public Safety
Criminal Investigations Division (CID) and the San Patricio County Sheriff’s Office
Explosives Canine Unit.

“This was a seamless, collaborative effort that brought swift justice to our community,”
said UPD CID Lieutenant Chris Hill. “We are especially grateful to the residents of Uvalde—
two of the suspects were apprehended directly due to timely and valuable information
provided by local citizens.”

Chief Homer Delgado added, “I’m incredibly proud of our team for their diligent work in
ensuring suspects involved in this incident were swiftly arrested and firearms were
recovered. Thanks again go out to all of the agencies involved in this case—together we
remain committed to curbing violence and keeping our community safe.”

This case highlights the effectiveness of Operation Sunblock, UPD’s ongoing initiative
focused on strengthening community partnerships and prioritizing crimes that pose a
threat to public safety.

Press release from the Uvalde Police Department

05-07-25

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

UVALDE, TEXAS – A comprehensive three-month investigation involving over fourteen
criminal justice agencies across Texas, Florida, and New York, resulted in a juvenile being
apprehended in Brooklyn, New York, following an interview by the City of Uvalde Police
Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigations Division with
the assistance of the Kings County District Attorney’s Criminal Investigations Division.
In January 2025, a series of threats were received in Uvalde, including multiple “swatting” calls
targeting Uvalde CISD, social media threats via Instagram, TikTok messages directed at a family
member of a Robb Elementary School victim, and further threats sent to Uvalde CISD students
through various social media platforms.
Law enforcement agencies, including Texas DPS CID, City of Uvalde Police Department, FBI
San Antonio, and UCISD Police, initiated a joint investigation that traced the origin of the threats
to the New York area. Intelligence gathered by the Southwest Texas Fusion Center, where the
Uvalde Police Department has a liaison officer, further revealed similar swatting calls made to
Edgewood ISD campuses in San Antonio just minutes after the initial Uvalde incidents. Identical
calls were reported at a Florida school on the same days, prompting the investigation to expand
and involve the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, San Antonio Police Department, and
Edgewood ISD Police Department.
Legal collaboration from Uvalde County Attorney John Dodson, 38th District Attorney Christina
Mitchell, and Bexar County Criminal District Attorney Joe Gonzales facilitated a joint operation
with the Kings County District Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn, New York.
On Wednesday, April 30, Assistant Chief Mike Davis and a Texas DPS Special Agent, with the
support of the 38th Judicial District Attorney, traveled to Brooklyn to further investigate this
case. Based on the interview by Assistant Chief Davis and the DPS Special Agent, a juvenile
suspect was taken into custody at his residence by Kings County District Attorney Detectives on
Thursday morning on one felony count of terroristic threat and four misdemeanor counts of false
report – emergency. The juvenile suspect admitted to making multiple swatting calls to law
enforcement agencies in Uvalde, San Antonio, Coral Springs, and Parkland. Additionally, the
juvenile suspect confessed to sending multiple social media threats, researching active shooter
incidents, and monitoring law enforcement and Uvalde CISD student social media accounts. A
search of his residence confirmed that he had no access to weapons and no direct connection to
Uvalde, San Antonio, or Florida.
These incidents have had significant implications for school safety, community security, and the
allocation of law enforcement resources. This operation underscores the unwavering
commitment of public servants nationwide to safeguarding their communities. The successful
coordination among multiple agencies demonstrates that threats to public safety will not go
unaddressed, regardless of geographic boundaries, because we can always count on the support
of our state and federal partners.
Chief Homer E. Delgado of the Uvalde Police Department stated,
“This operation demonstrates our commitment to working with partners to ensure we hold
people accountable for threatening our community. We will not allow distance or digital
anonymity to shield those who try to cause fear or disrupt the safety of our schools and
neighborhoods.”
As law enforcement continues to respond to similar cases across the country, many involving
juvenile offenders, it remains imperative that parents actively monitor their children’s online
activities and discuss the serious consequences of making false threats. Additionally, community
members are encouraged to report any concerning behaviors or threats to authorities. The “See
Something, Say Something” initiative extends to digital spaces, ensuring that social media
threats do not go unnoticed.
The following agencies played a crucial role in this collaborative effort:
• 38th Judicial District Attorney’s Office
• Texas Department of Public Safety CID / Threat to Life Unit
• Kings County District Attorney’s Office
• Edgewood ISD Police Department
• Southwest Texas Fusion Center
• Uvalde County Attorney’s Office

The Uvalde Police Department cleared Walmart and the store’s parking lot early Saturday afternoon May 4th in response to a bomb threat.

At 1:02PM The Uvalde Police Department posted the following on its Facebook Page: “Uvalde & surrounding area residents, please be advised that the Uvalde Walmart is currently being evacuated for the public’s safety. We ask that you please allow law enforcement officials the space and time to make sure that the store does not contain anything that can harm the public at large. Your safety is our main concern.”

An update was then added to the original post:

UPDATE (2:32 pm)

UVALDE WALMART HAS BEEN CLEARED AND IS NOW OPENED TO THE PUBLIC. We appreciate all local agencies that assisted in ensuring the public’s safety.”

The Uvalde Hesperian reached out to Uvalde Police Chief Homer Delgado this morning and he said, “Staff sergeant E. Canales was the one scene incident commander with Assistant chief Davis and Chief Delgado assisting with planning and decision making utilizing the new LTE radio system. Hwy 90 was closed so that we could have Walmart employees evacuate to Texbest across the highway.”

Officials seen assembled at Tex Best Convenience Store

A few store employees and customers stood across the street near Applebees. One Walmart employee was supposed to go in for his/her shift but was blocked from entering the property. One individual told Hesperian he was sleeping in his car in the parking lot and reported he was told to leave the premises.

“I had just left the women’s bathroom near the electronics but only saw one young girl. They made everyone leave the parking lot and Walmart employees ended up at AT&T facing Highway 90 and across from Applebees blocked off from turning into that area,” Stephanie Clary said.

She stated while she was at the checkout near the grocery section, she saw a Uvalde Police Officer and a Uvalde County Sheriff’s Officer standing close by

Clary went on to say when she saw two agencies together, and she thought, “That’s odd.”

She observed people standing around the front of the store and an unidentified woman told the crowd to leave the store.

” It was all very surreal.” she said

Cheryl Renfro was also at the Walmart Saturday afternoon, and she said, “I was there- evacuated everyone had employees go across to Tex-Best. Cleared parking lot. Police at Wal Mart- some had guns drawn, ambulance and fire dept all across Hwy at Tex Best.”

The Uvalde Hesperian was on the scene and noticed all the entrances were blocked by Police officials. Between 2PM and 2:30 PM, the Uvalde Hesperian noticed officials closing Highway 90 and blocking access to Tex Best Convenience Store.

On Monday, May 5th at about 9AM, the Uvalde Police Department issued this statement on its Facebook page:

Uvalde Police Respond to Threat at Walmart; Store Deemed Safe Following Evacuation and Search

UVALDE, TEXAS – On the afternoon of Saturday, May 3, 2025, the Uvalde Police Department received a phone call from a number with a California area code. The male caller reported that he had placed an explosive device in the men’s restroom at the Walmart located in Uvalde. The caller further claimed to be armed with a firearm and threatened to begin shooting if the alleged explosive device did not detonate.

In response, emergency personnel from across the area quickly mobilized and arrived on scene. As a precautionary measure, Walmart management and responding emergency crews conducted a full evacuation of the store to ensure the safety of employees and customers.

Specialized teams, in coordination with Walmart management, conducted a thorough search of the premises for any suspicious items or indications of danger. After a complete inspection, no threats or hazardous materials were found. Based on these findings, the store was determined to be secure, and the “All-Clear” was issued.

Uvalde Police Chief Homer Delgado

‘”This type of threat disrupts the lives of our community members and strains emergency resources,” said Chief Homer E. Delgado. “We take every threat seriously and will continue to work diligently to identify and prosecute the individual responsible for this reckless and dangerous act.”

The Uvalde Police Department has launched a full investigation and is working with regional and federal partners to track down the suspect. Anyone with information related to this incident is encouraged to contact the Uvalde Police Department at (830) 278-9147 or through our anonymous tip line.

Uvalde Police Chief Homer Delgado posted a press release this morning on the Uvalde Police Department’s Facebook page stating that the Robb Elementary School memorial site located on the corner of Geraldine Street and Old Carrizo Road was vandalized.

Chief Delgado informed the Uvalde Hesperian the incident likely occurred between the hours of 11PM on Wednesday April 30th and 6 AM Thursday Morning, May 1st.

“Several family members came out this morning and made repairs before they went to work,” Delgado said.

“We are asking that anyone who has cameras in the area to check and see if they captured anyone walking in the area last night.” He said.

The Uvalde Hesperian visited the site this morning following Police Chief Delgado’s Uvalde Police Department post and the site appeared to look normal except for the discolored places on the concrete where some of the crosses were originally positioned.  Following the May 24th, 2022 tragedy at Robb Elementary School, the Texas Department of Public Safety has posted patrol units and officers at the campus.

Amy Franco, one of the teachers that was at Robb Elementary School the day of the May 24th tragedy issued the following statement to the Uvalde Hesperian:

“Yes, it is so disturbing that coming up on the 3-year mark something so disrespectful like this happened. Here it is the first day of May, we the survivors, the families dread this month and this is what we wake up to.”

Statement posted Thursday morning May 1st, 2025, by Uvalde Police Chief Homer Delgado

A Message to Our Community
Today, I am deeply disappointed to report that the memorial crosses at Robb Elementary—lovingly placed by grieving families to honor the lives of the children and teachers we lost—were vandalized. This act is not only senseless, it is cruel, and it has inflicted more pain on families who have already endured unimaginable loss.
To the families and all those hurting: we see you, we stand with you, and we share your heartbreak. The Uvalde Police Department is actively working to identify the individuals responsible. We will not tolerate these continued attacks on the dignity of our community, and we will hold those responsible accountable.
Robb Elementary is not just a location. It is a symbol of sorrow, resilience, and remembrance. To violate it is to violate the spirit of Uvalde itself.
We remain committed to protecting this community—with compassion, with integrity, and with unwavering resolve.

Press Release from the Uvalde Police Department

04-03-24

Uvalde, TX – Following a comprehensive investigation involving the Uvalde Police Department,
UCISD Police and Administration, the 38th Criminal District Attorney’s Office, Texas Rangers,
Child Protective Services, and the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, an arrest has been made in
connection with a UCISD High School coach for violating Texas Penal Code – PENAL § 21.12,
Improper Relationship Between Educator and Student.

On Friday, March 28th, Uvalde Police Department officers responded to a mental health crisis
call. During this response, officers became aware of a potential criminal offense involving a
UCISD employee, prompting a joint investigation by multiple agencies.

A suspect was identified as a coach at Uvalde High School and was apprehended after
investigators processed evidence and interviewed multiple witnesses. The Uvalde Police
Department obtained an arrest warrant, which was executed with the assistance of the Bexar
County Sheriff’s Office.

This investigation is ongoing, and we continue to interview witnesses to determine if others may
have been involved or if there are additional victims. We urge the community to come forward
with any information regarding this case or any other related incidents.

“I am proud to say that this is a great example of multiagency collaboration,” said Chief Homer
Delgado. “Through the combined efforts of law enforcement and local authorities, we are
ensuring the safety of our community, particularly our children, from both violence and
exploitation. We remain committed to thoroughly investigating this case to protect the well

A suspicious 911 phone call prompted Uvalde CISD to place Uvalde High and Morales Junior High Schools on Hold status as law enforcement responded to a potential threat. LaPryor ISD placed their campuses on in Secure status as a result of the call.

A student of either Uvalde High School or Morales Junior High posted a picture on social media Thursday afternoon of an officer with a shotgun in a school’s hallway with the caption, “Hell Yeah”

Uvalde County Constable Emmanuel Zamora posted on his Facebook page that a large police presence was observed at 1:45PM.

Ther following timeline was also posted by Zamora:

1:45 PM: Uvalde CISD schools are being extra patrolled due to a suspicious call.
Uvalde CISD Police are CONFIRMING everything is ok. Updates will be provided ASAP.
UPDATE: 2:02 PM by UCISD.
Morales Junior High and Uvalde High School are on a Hold Status due to an incident that was called into the Uvalde PD regarding the Uvalde High School. Uvalde CISD PD, DPS Troopers, and Uvalde PD are on the campus to sweep the campus. Parents are asked not to visit the campuses at this time. More information will be released shortly.
2:18 pm
Update to our Morales Junior High and Uvalde High School Caregivers….
The Hold Status has been lifted at both campuses. Your cooperation and patience were very much appreciated. Please know that there will be an increased police presence at both campuses. We are asking parents and caregivers to allow the school day to return to the normal schedule and allow a regular dismissal of the school day. This incident directly resulted from a swatting hoax called into the Uvalde PD. The district is working with all law enforcement agencies to gather more information to be released as it becomes available. Your support and cooperation are greatly appreciated.
Parent J. Anson Bills stated that he observed other parents’ cars on 2nd Street and Studer street causing increased traffic which in the event of a real emergency could delay 1st responders in reaching the schools.
Uvalde CISD released the following statement as a press release:
“Today, an unfortunate situation unfolded when the Uvalde Police Department received a 911 call shortly before 2 p.m., reporting an active shooter on the third floor of Uvalde High School. We want to emphasize that Uvalde High School does not have a third floor. Nevertheless, the Uvalde Police Department, DPS Troopers, Border Patrol, and Uvalde CISD Police Department responded promptly and conducted a comprehensive sweep of the campus. As a precaution, Uvalde High School and Morales Junior High were placed on Hold Status to ensure student safety by bringing them indoors and clearing the hallways. A lockdown was not initiated, as no active threat was identified on or around the campus.

We are relieved to confirm that no active shooter was found following a thorough search, and the claims were determined to be false. This incident has been classified as a swatting hoax, especially since a similar call was made to a school in San Antonio. To maintain safety and provide peace of mind, there was a heightened police presence at both campuses until the conclusion of the school day.

We acknowledge the anxiety and fear that such situations can cause among our students, staff, and community members. It is important to remind everyone that counseling support is available for students who may need it, and they are encouraged to reach out to their campus counselors. Additionally, community resources can be accessed on the Uvalde CISD webpage under the Counseling Resources section, providing access to Counseling/Behavioral Health Service Providers.

We extend our gratitude to the Uvalde Police Department, DPS Troopers, Border Patrol, and the Uvalde CISD Police Department for their swift and coordinated response, showcasing professionalism during these critical moments. Rest assured, our top priorities remain the safety and well-being of our students and staff. We are committed to maintaining a secure and nurturing educational environment for everyone.”

The Uvalde Volunteer Fire Department and the Uvalde Police Department responded to a Sunday night blaze on South Grove that left an unoccupied single-wide trailer in ruins. The fire caused a large amount of smoke that was detected in the surrounding neighborhood north of the Cartender’s convenience store on 444 West Main Street.

The Uvalde VFD posted the following on its Facebook Page that same evening:

“At 7:52 PM on Sunday, the Uvalde Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire in an unoccupied mobile home located in the 200 block of South Grove Street in Uvalde. Upon their arrival, firefighters observed heavy flames engulfing all sides of the structure. They initiated a defensive attack and swiftly brought the fire under control, followed by an interior search. The mobile home was vacant and lacked utility connections. The fire marshal’s office was notified.”

A resident of the area who claims to know the owner of the structure said the owner was in the process of trying to sell the trailer and that squatters had occupied the building previously. The resident also informed the Uvalde Hesperian that he received information authorities had detained or arrested a subject of interest later that night or Monday morning, December 30th, 2024.
