AUSTIN, TEXAS – Following the Texas Senate’s passage of House Bill 33, known as the Uvalde Strong Act, Senator Roland Gutierrez (D-San Antonio) issued a response praising the bill’s intent but warning that it fails to address the root causes of the Robb Elementary School shooting and many of the systemic failures that followed.

“All of those cops failed to act for an hour and 17 minutes,” said Gutierrez. “I think this is a fine piece of legislation but under no certain terms should we have some Heroes Day story about law enforcement. I’ve seen hundreds of hours of those videos. Kids dragged in the hallway. Cops throwing up. Survivors crying for their mommies and daddies.”

The bill, passed Monday with unanimous support, seeks to increase coordination among law enforcement agencies during mass casualty events. Gutierrez, who has been a vocal advocate for Uvalde families, criticized the law enforcement response to the mass shooting and lack of accountability.

In the aftermath of the May 2022 massacre, the Texas Department of Public Safety under then-Director Steve McCraw repeatedly misrepresented key facts and have resisted full transparency about their role in the failed response to this day.

“Steve McCraw came into this room 30 days afterwards and told us the door didn’t work. That wasn’t true,” stated Gutierrez, recounting the story of a teacher who was initially blamed by the department for an unlocked door, which was later debunked.

The Senator also criticized the state’s reaction to the tragedy, noting that Republican leadership has failed in its care for Uvalde victims’ families.

“We need to do better on common sense gun safety solutions. We need to do better on how we treat people after these tragedies. We need to do better on victim’s compensation funds,” said Gutierrez, “These families got $1000 from the attorney general’s office. The lowest of any mass shooting in this state.”

Senator Gutierrez has introduced multiple bills to raise the minimum age to purchase assault weapons, establish red flag laws, and mandate transparency from law enforcement agencies—none of which have received a hearing in the GOP-controlled legislature.

“Let’s not kid ourselves,” stated Senator Gutierrez, “Until we get guns out of the hands of 18-year-olds, these semiautomatic assault rifles, this is going to happen again. Until we start holding law enforcement accountable in a real way, this is going to happen again.”

Top Photo: Pete Arredondo exits the Uvalde County Justice Center with a cardboard Amazon box.

Security was tight around the Uvalde County Justice Center with attendees of the evidentiary hearing held today at 10 AM required to walk through a metal detector and be wanded by a sheriff’s officer. The buzzing of a drone was heard for most of the morning. Robb School Victims’ family members and reporters were allowed into the courtroom without cell phones and recording devices.

Outside the facility, a media area was ribboned off with local and national media representatives in attendance.

Shortly after 11 AM, a few victims’ family members emerged from the Justice Center with many more exiting the building followed by Pet Arredondo holding a cardboard box accompanied by security.

Former Uvalde CISD Police Chief Pete Arredondo’s attorney Paul Looney with Looney, Smith and Conrad, P.C., approached the media area and spoke followed by a Q and A.

Looney stated that Arredondo did move to breach the classroom because of the potential for crossfire penetrating the wallboards and then hitting students in nearby classrooms. He referred to Arredondo’s orders to stand down actually meant to hold until other classrooms could be cleared. Looney stated that bullets and shrapnel had already penetrated the thin wallboards. Looney went on to indicate the defense was not going to reveal its strategy ahead of time, but a new description of events would be heard that has yet to be heard.

Looney also said 911 phone calls from inside the classroom were not relayed to Uvalde CISD Police Chief Arredondo.

Looney also criticized the U.S. Border Patrol for not releasing its evidence pertaining to the Robb School Massacre on May 24th, 2024.

The Uvalde Hesperian met with Super Jones last week who is an Army Veteran who serves as a private duty nurse and lives in San Antonio.

He has skated and ridden for many miles promoting such charities as the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

It was after the death of his son in 2020. that Mr. Jones decided to become Super Jones, “the Original Real Life Super Hero.”
“I lost my baby, but the world gained a real-life superhero,” Jones said.

Like Superman, he is hesitant to reveal his true identity, although the Hesperian found him to be as mild mannered and as humble as the Daily Planet Reporter Clark Kent.

After losing his son, Jones made the decision, as Super Jones, to serve others through his love for in-line skating. Jones also likes cycling. He said one day a patient of his told Jones he had a cycle he didn’t use anymore. Jones told his patent he loved to skate long distances for charities and a good quality bike needed to have miles put on it. Jone’s patient told him, “Then the bike is yours.”

Jones in-line skates and rides his bicycle for charities.

Jones is planning on skating from San Antonio to Uvalde on Saturday, November 16th to honor the people who lost family members on May 24th during the Robb School Tragedy.

According to a statement provided by Jones, it says, “I shall begin the journey in the A.M. of November 16th at Johnson High School in San Antonio and I shall finish at Uvalde High School. Estimated time for the mission is 10 hours if I feel my absolute worst. If I am feeling my best the estimated time is 7-8.5 hours. Either way, includes estimated rest periods when restroom breaks may be needed.

I am not asking for donations for this mission. However, if people want to give donations to buy dinner for the people who drive along for safety, it would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. If any school, church or other worthwhile organization wants to piggyback on these affords to raise funds for their worthwhile causes. I am wide open for suggestions. ”

Jones can be reached at superskate238@sbcglobal.net

    Hello.
WHEN WE WATCHED IN HORROR AS A MOTHER WAS HANDCUFFED, FORCED ON HER KNEES, OUT IN THE STREET BECAUSE SHE WAS GOING TO GO IN TO DO WHAT ALL THOSE DO NOTHING BUNCH OF DISGUSTING LAW “enforcement” CHICKEN SHITS, WOULDN’T…GO GET HER BOYS OUT OF THAT MAYHEM…A SECOND PARENT WAS PEPPER SPRAYED THEN ROUGHLY FLUNG TO THE GROUND …FOR THE SAME REASON…HE WAS BRAVE ENOUGH TO WANT TO GO IN AND GET HIS CHILD!

I was screaming at my T.V. because l am a former military spouse and was completely bewildered by 300 grown ass men LETTING CHILDREN AND THEIR TEACHERS BE VICIOUSLY TRAUMATIZED before THEY WERE KILLED! FRANTICALLY CALLING 911, EVEN HAVING THE SURVIVAL INSTINCTS TO REACH OVER AND SMEAR HER DEAD FRIEND’S BLOOD ON HERSELF AND PLAY DEAD.

I PRAY FOR HER AND THE TEACHER BLAMED BY THE MEDIA AS BEING RESPONSIBLE ??? BECAUSE SHE LEFT A SIDE DOOR OPEN.

I HAVE SEEN HER INTERVIEWS AND WHAT THAT LEVEL OF PUBLIC Cruelty DID TO HER MIND! I STILL QUESTION WHY NO T.V. NETWORK, EITHER LOCAL OR NATIONAL REPORTED THAT THE MAMA BEAR, HANDCUFFED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET …CONNED THOSE BALLESS MEN INTO RELEASING HER. THEN SHE WENT IN THAT LIFE THREATENING HELL HOLE AND GOT HER BOYS!

To this day we do not know the facts of her bravery, determination or how many children she managed to out as gutless creeps …no words ugly enough to properly describe!

As is instinctive with Texans, l waited anxiously for information on where to send donations. Was there no one there volunteering or designated to set up a place, system, bank to receive the gifts that poured in from all over the world? To date, we have never heard whether our donations…SACRIFICIAL IN MANY CASES..have been released to the victims

And because of BUSINESS AS USUAL IN CORRUPT SAN ANTONIO…I think different than most people. I didn’t trust that sending money would ever reach y’all. No bank had been identified or email or any instructions released. So I waited.

Weeks later l heard that school supplies were being asked for. Being a former Special Ed substitute teacher’s aide and Sunday School teacher ideas flooded my mind.WHAT WOULD REACH THE HEARTS OF YOUR BROKEN CHILDREN AND BREATH CRUSHED OUT OF YOU PARENTS WITH OTHER CHILDREN ALSO NEEDING SPECIAL ATTENTION??

The first thing I did was call my 4 grandkids in Virginia. Yes, they had heard about your tragedy/ongoing horror stories.

No hesitation, questions or disappointment as l asked them if l could send y’all their stock piled Christmas gifts. With four, l have to buy a little at a time. I described the activity books, a very detailed, complex dot to dot thick book for my super smart, ADHA grandson, Match Box cars for my other grandson, some razzle/dazzle sparkly clothes for my younger granddaughter and a diary…and a bracelet for my oldest granddaughter.

I cried tears of joy as they got excited that they would be helping l told them I would put their names on their gifts for your kids. Then it occurred to me that because l have tiny wrists…that l could donate many simple bracelets l used to wear to match my work clothes outfits before l retired.

I envisioned l little girls excited about something for the first time in weeks. They could choose which bracelet or hair decor they wanted and the little boys grabbed the cars and then they pulled at them from each other. And maybe that puts a smile on one of your parents’ faces…cause money is so impersonal.

I am a voracious reader so I had MANY Christian books for the older kids AND MAYBE SOME COMFORT TO YOU PARENTS.

I hauled 3 boxes to the post office. The postman at the counter was all excited to be a part of helping y’all. We still had not been provided with an address so he got in their computer system and found a zip code. The 2 other counter employees got excited too! They were checking their systems for an address we hoped would reach y’all and l watched as employees and customers (who would normally complain about waiting)… were scrambling so they could write down an address. WE CARE UVALDE STRONG!

( We) did not give to be recognized but hoped for a response to send back to my grandkids. Months later there was finally a blip on the news that Victims had to sign up on a list in November…to WAIT FOR DISBURSEMENT??

I QUESTION HOW PEOPLE’S DONATIONS WERE “handled”. Here in criminal Insanity City (San Antonio), the “norm” would be to quietly open a bank account, not say anything and draw interest off it until someone specifically asks….then pocket that interest for themselves. Did y’all ever get our donations?

I am all upset again because your FORMER police chief went on CNN and is claiming to be a “SCAPEGOAT”. But their reporter was no fool! They unexpectedly pulled up the body cam tapes from in the school hallway clearly showing him standing there, calmly on his walkie talkie. THEY WERE ALL STANDING THERE..DUMB ASSES ( Excuse me but words don’t do what they DIDN’T DO justice!)

He immediately panicked when he saw their tape and was asked to verbally explain what was happening. A lawyer leaned over whispering to him and his body poster relaxed. He got a puppy dog act on his face and said he, “couldn’t talk about it because they were his kids too.”

I am SO SORRY YOU ARE BEING SUBJECTED TO THIS ALL OVER AGAIN! ALSO WANTED TO WARN YOU THAT Nico LaHood (representing him) WAS OUR FORMER DISTRICT ATTORNEY AND HIS NAME SUITS HIM “hood”. For years he covered up and refused to prosecute our career politicians. He’s slick and aiming for false processing of the actual arrest.

He’s a criminal defense attorney now and stands for publicity. He’s slimy smart.

All l can say is GO UVALDE STRONG!
