  Love fills the air once again at El Progreso Memorial Library as the much-anticipated annual Valentine’s Music on Main returns to the rotunda on Saturday, February 14, beginning at 7 p.m., in celebration of St. Valentine’s Day.

  The evening will be emceed by Olga Charles and Martin Vasquez, with Toni K. Hull providing piano accompaniment for an outstanding lineup of vocal talent. Performers include Al Haughey; David and Paula Seydel; Marco Bessares; Paulo and Marie Viana; Tess and Jack Clarkson; Jim Gerrish; Jim and Christiana Horn; Vince DiPiazza; Julie Thomas; John and Cheryl Juhasz; and the Fenceposts—Bob and Mike Huddleson, Ken Rutherford—along with a special introduction of Jeff TilleyJason Schlicting will also be featured.

The program offers a delightful mix of romantic favorites and crowd-pleasers, including “We’re Not in the Jet Set,” “We’re Gonna Hold On,” “Endless Love,” “Down at the Twist and Shout,” “Louisiana Saturday Night,” “Pachelbel’s Canon,” and “When I Fall in Love.”

  Come share the music, the romance, and the joy of Valentine’s Day at the library.

🎤 Curated by the talented Toni Kay Hull, this year’s show is packed with local stars, surprise duets, and heartwarming performances:
✨ Kicking things off with energy and fun, Katie and the Boys — featuring Katie Cabralez, Steve Cox, Paul Kimble, and Greg Knapp — will have the crowd singing along with their lively take on “Barbara Ann” and more.
💞 John and Cheryle Juhasz will melt hearts with their rendition of Brad Paisley’s heartfelt hit, “New Again,” and the timeless anthem “Lean on Me”. Then, brace yourself for a saxophone sensation as award-winning San Antonio artist Luke Williams commands the stage with “Rock Around the Clock” and a soulful “Can’t Help Falling in Love with You.”🎷
🎻 For a classical treat, Uvalde City Manager Vince di Piazza will join forces with Gary Horn for a stunning viola and cello duet. Valerie Redus, accompanied by her daughter-in-law Alondra on clarinet, will enchant the audience with the dreamy classic, “Blue Moon.”
David and Paula Seydel will delight with the version of “I Don’t Want to Have to Marry You” and “Have You Ever Been Lonely?”.
🎶 Olgui Urso will bring depth and emotion with her performance of “Sunrise, Sunset”.
🎹 Also gracing the stage: the ever-talented Lee Milstead will sing “My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys: and “I Needed You”. The night will include powerful vocals and piano flair with Jason Schlicting delivering a show-stopping performance of “Folsom Prison Blues” and “The Impossible Dream.”
🌶The Chili Peppers will assist as hostesses for the reception following the performance.

December 14th at 7 p.m. Toni Kay Hull will present the annual Music on Main Christmas Spectacular! Emcee Carolyn Lampe will introduce musicians and their selections including Darrell Zimmerman, the Fenceposts (Ken Rutherford, Bob and Mike Huddleston), Luke Williams on saxophone, Dave and Paula Seydel singing “Silver Bells”, Vince DiPiazza and Nathan Lafrenz “Nutcracker”.

Others featured are soloist Valerie Redus. the Dolce String Quartet with Gary and Christina Ford, Nathan Lafrenz and Vince DiPiazza. Camille Sanders Jeffcoat, Greg Knapp, Paulo and Miata Viana, Julia Thomas and Michael Robinson “Baby It’s Cold Outside”, Olgui Urso “Ave Maria”, Jim Gerrish and Art Sutton, Karl and Stephanie Gager “Happy Birthday to Our Lord”, Jim Woodward, Charla Jenkins and the Beach Boys and Katie Cabralez with Pedro Luna on Guitar. Selections will include standards bound to put you in the spirit of a joyous Christmas.

Local talent brings the Sounds of Love to Music on Main

Music on Main has become a beloved tradition at El Progreso Memorial Library. Valentine’s Day is one of those special occasions where Pianist Toni Hull assembles her musical friends for a special evening of song as part of El Progreso Memorial Library’s Music on Main events.

This year, over 100 people gathered under the library’s rotunda and listened to songs of love and devotion sung by many local talented singers and played on a variety of musical instruments. Music on Main also hosts a special Christmas Concert as part of its Music on Main annual concerts.

Toni K. Hull played the piano accompaniment on several selections. The Valentine’s Day line up included Sara Hensarling Tafolla, Valeri Redus, Linda and Carlos Koehl, The Memories, Karl Gager, Rene Ford, Darrell Zimmerman, Jim Gerrish, Camille Sanders the Uvalde Beach Boys and the Dolce String Quartet on such selections as “I Wish You Love”, “La Paloma”, “Elvira”, “Someone to Watch Over Me”,
“It Had to be You”.

Love is in the air at El Progreso Memorial Library! Toni K. February 15th Story Hour at 10:30 a.m. with special guest reader Janice who will also be performing magic tricks for the preschoolers! “Miss Jellybean’s character comes alive as she entertains children through her silly storytelling and magic tricks.

It’s a school holiday – February 16th Mark Fuller storyteller, face painter and balloon artist at 10:30 a.m. “Be amazed at Mr. Mark’s magic. Non-stop laughs from beginning to end.” We’ll have balloons and face painting following the shows as long as supplies last.

El Progreso Memorila Library’s upcoming events

Kaboom! invites community to help design new playground at Esperanza Park

“A new playground is coming to Esperanza Park and we’re looking for designers,” are the words on a Kaboom! flier announcing a design meetup at El Progreso Memorial Library on Wednesday, February 8th at 11:30 AM. Children and adults are invited to participate and submit designs both at the February 8th meetup and virtually through a Vision Study through the Kaboom! Esperanza Vision website “KABOOM!, the City of Uvalde, and The CarMax Foundation are building a new playground at Esperanza Park this April! We want you to be a part of designing this playground! Come share your ideas at a Design Event following Story Hour at El Progreso Memorial Library on February 8 at 11:30AM. You can also share your ideas at https://tinyurl.com/EsperanzaVision ,” an official statement released by Kaboom! reads.
The playground design survey will close at 12:01 AM on February 9 according to Kaboom! Once the designs are finalized Kaboom! will share the community’s ideas with the manufacturer.
Bicki Rudman has been named as Kaboom! Project Director for the Esperanza Park Project.

The CarMax Foundation is funding the project, and volunteers from the foundation will be joining the community on the April 20 Build Day. And the Rotary Club of Uvalde has generously agreed to provide additional partnership on the ground to help support the project.

120th Birthday Celebration of  El Progreso Memorial Library’s Founding A very special birthday cake will be offered at the noon meeting of El Progreso Club following the program of the fascinating Kincaid Rock Shelters in Sabinal. The Kincaid Stone Pavement is the oldest known structural feature in North America. This meeting is FREE and open to the public.

Art and Smart in El Progreso Meeting Room on Saturday February 11th from 10 AM to Noon with Children’s Bereavement Center featuring creative Themed Valentine’s art projects, treats and fun.
