INFORMATION FOR COUNTY RESIDENTS AFFECTED BY THE RECENT FLOODING
Uvalde County is continuing recovery efforts following the recent flooding and is asking residents to follow the guidelines below to help ensure debris is collected safely and efficiently.
Residents who experienced flood damage should separate debris into the following categories before placing them in the County right of way:

• METAL/HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCES
• HOUSEHOLD AND CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS
• BRUSH

To assist with collection efforts, we ask that you call the Road Department at (830) 278-9213 and give your name, phone number and address to schedule a day and time for pick up.
Residents should place debris at the edge of the public right of way, away from mailboxes, utility poles, trees, and other obstacles. Do not place debris in the roadway, where it could block traffic.
Remember to separate debris into the categories listed above. Mixing debris will delay collection. County crews will begin debris collection when scheduled with the Road Department.
The County appreciates the patience and cooperation of all residents affected by the floods. Working together will help ensure debris is removed safely and efficiently.

Heavy rainfall occurring approximately at 4 AM this morning in Uvalde, Knippa and other areas of Uvalde County dumped even more water on already saturated soil resulting in area-wide flooding and road closures.

Inside the city limit, Puccini Lane, East Leona Road and 4th Street by Dalton Elementary School were closed due to water over the roadway. Other city roads prone to flooding were likely closed.

Just before 10AM this morning, a downpour over Uvalde caused East Main Street to experience water buildup sometimes on both westbound lanes.

County Road closures were discussed briefly at this morning’s Uvalde County Municipal Court.  County Road Administrator Dee Kirkpatrick told Uvalde County Judge William “Bill” Mitchell that FM 127 between Sabinal and Concan was closed due to flooding as well as CR248 known as River Road due to the rise of the Frio River.

 The Uvalde Hesperian reached out to Uvalde County Emergency Management Operations Center Coordinator Forrest Anderson on Sunday asking the following question:

What is the status of the Frio River and Nueces Rivers as far as water recreation and the danger of more flood waters coming in?

Anderson responded later that evening and said,

” The Frio watershed would be the more likely of the two to experience any increase at this time due to saturated soils from previous upstream water coming down on the 4th & 5th of this month. The Nueces watershed as a whole, in our area has not received any significant water flow, or rain. This has been confirmed from Fire Chief Dan Cox. No threat to recreation at this time. First Responders, Law Enforcement are on top of any issues that may occur.

  River Camp operators are cognizant of any potential flooding issues, and work with those responders to provide direct information/ contact to visitors on the ground as warranted. We have no direct knowledge of any additional flood waters coming down at this time, however, that being said, portions of Uvalde, Real, Medina, and other counties are under a Watch at this time, collectively until 8:00 PM for potential flooding in low areas due to saturated soils if additional rains fall in certain areas.

  Unless a mandatory evacuation is ordered by authorities, local law enforcement advises the citizens & visitors very strongly of any threat of potential flooding, rising water, however, they cannot forcibly remove anyone from what I understand. 

  We pass on the information we receive directly from the National Weather Service, New Braunfels- San Antonio. We make no assumptions, or indications beyond that, unless we have confirmed information on the ground from law enforcement, Fire, or other response entities with eyes on the conditions. 

  There would be concern of roadway flooding if additional rain is forecast, we utilize TxDot, NWS, and other sources, our County Sheriff’s deputies and others, again to provide confirmed information on specific roadways which tend to flood in order for us to inform leadership to make decisions on road closures, evacuations, etc.,”
