Traffic on State Highway 127  and Highway 83 North has returned with RVers, motorcyclists along with cars and trucks packed with tubes and river gear headed to Concan and the Frio River area. College students could be seen at Seven Bluff Crossing on River Road Thursday afternoon playing beer pong or just relaxing in the Frio River.  Wednesday’s colder temperatures and overcast skies gave way to sunny skies and temperatures in the 80’s on Thursday afternoon.

The Randy Rogers Band took the stage at House Pasture performing before hundreds of people kicking off the first of a three day concert series. Artists will also be taking to stages around the area including Joe Jimmy’s , Hippy Chicks both in Concan and Hangar Six in Uvalde.

At approximately 11:00 PM, a one vehicle accident was seen on River Road  in Concan at the Frio Country River Crossing with Uvalde County Sheriff’s officers and the Concan Fire Department on the scene.

Local talent brings the Sounds of Love to Music on Main

Music on Main has become a beloved tradition at El Progreso Memorial Library. Valentine’s Day is one of those special occasions where Pianist Toni Hull assembles her musical friends for a special evening of song as part of El Progreso Memorial Library’s Music on Main events.

This year, over 100 people gathered under the library’s rotunda and listened to songs of love and devotion sung by many local talented singers and played on a variety of musical instruments. Music on Main also hosts a special Christmas Concert as part of its Music on Main annual concerts.

Toni K. Hull played the piano accompaniment on several selections. The Valentine’s Day line up included Sara Hensarling Tafolla, Valeri Redus, Linda and Carlos Koehl, The Memories, Karl Gager, Rene Ford, Darrell Zimmerman, Jim Gerrish, Camille Sanders the Uvalde Beach Boys and the Dolce String Quartet on such selections as “I Wish You Love”, “La Paloma”, “Elvira”, “Someone to Watch Over Me”,
“It Had to be You”.

“Take a fantastic musical adventure with an out-of-this-world car that flies through the air and sails the seas. Based on the beloved 1968 film version of Ian Fleming’s children’s book, and featuring an unforgettable score by the Sherman Brothers (Mary Poppins), Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is one family-friendly blockbuster that audiences will find “Truly Scrumptious,”  reads the description in the Uvalde Opera House website.

The opening night for the production happened on Thursday night and the production will continue with shows through Sunday.

“Thrilling to direct a wonderful, talented and delightful cast,” Director Jan Elliott said.

“The musicians, crew and production volunteers (set, props, wardrobe, et. al) have greatly blessed this production.  ‘Chitty ‘ is a delightful, funny and encouraging story. Come, relax and enjoy a beautifully orchestrated fantasmagorical adventure, ”  Elliott Said

The Thursday night show was mostly full and it was reported Friday night show still had some seats available so if you are looking for something fun to do, head to the Uvalde Opera House Box Office or Book your tickets online for the final shows of this weekend.
