Robb School victim’s family members have sent a “Cease and Desist” letter “Robb-ed” Documentary film director Charlie Minn effectively resending their permission to use their names, images and likenesses. The Uvalde Hesperian obtained a copy of the letter amid controversy of the film scheduled to be shown to a select group of victim’s family members this week.

According to a KENS 5 report, a private screening of the film is scheduled for today, Monday, January 30th ahead of the Friday, February 3rd, 2023 scheduled showing date.

In another report by KENS5 report, San Antonio theater owner Santikos Entertainment has decided it will not show the film.

“Santikos Entertainment isn’t waiting that long. The company said the film’s showings are not happening: ‘After consulting with the city of Uvalde, we learned that investigations into this tragedy are ongoing. Also, considering all the families involved and affected by this horrific act, and the recency of the entire incident, we have concluded it is inappropriate to show this film at this time.'”

Controversy and strong opinions surround documentary to be shown in Uvalde

The Forum 6 Theatres are planning on holding a private screening of “Robb-ed” a documentary on Friday, February 3th. The documentary was made by film producer Charlie Minn.

Not all of the family members of the Robb School tragedy on May 24th are happy about the screening of the film in Uvalde.

“The director lied about this motive to the parent and families. He claimed this movie would be about our kids, who they were, what they liked, just basically said the film would should be about them. The film is more graphic and tells lies,” Kimberly Garcia wrote on Twitter.

The Forum 6 Theater posted this message on its Facebook Page Monday January 23rd: “After the outreach from our previous post, I wanted to clarify some things and let you know what our new plan is. We are having a free private showing for the family members for the movie. We will make our decision whether to play the film for the public based on the response from them. When I chose to bring the movie to the Forum it was after I watched a rough cut, which I felt was done in taste. 100% of profit made from the movie, if we do play it for the public, will be donated, including concessions.”

The Forum 6 post as of 5:08 PM on Tuesday, January 24th had 107 comments. One family member, Albert Garza III felt like the documentary should be shown:

“I think this is getting a little out of hand. I’m only speaking for myself and no one else. I participated in the documentary along with several other families of the deceased and injured. This documentary was developed to get our story out and build awareness. I do not see how different this is from doing an interview for a news station, talking about our loved ones and to possibly prevent this from happening to others. There is no malicious intent here. Like I said, I don’t speak for anyone and no one speaks for me. Other people have their opinion and I have mine. I participated because I wanted the world to know who Amerie Jo Garza was and how this tragedy became reality for us. That was my intent then and it’s the same now.”

In another comment, Cris Branda wrote, “Jacob, I urge you to please not show this film. It is too soon and still to raw for these families. Instead stand behind these families and support them like they need to be supported. This movie has no place in this town. This town supports your theater, now its TIME for you to show your support. Do not preview film. Show these families that you care more about them than you do about the money.”
