 “My perception having been in the room with them, was that a certain point early in the event, staff from the college came and just notified them (Field and Zamara)… that there was… potentially an emotional conflict in the room with some of the folks who might be upset by their presence. I think they made the decision, as I understood it, to leave in the best interest of the event itself,” Yeackle said.

  “For the two individuals in question here, that would be an instructor, Emmanuel Zamora and the Director Johnny Field, both individuals also happen to be constables; elected offices. In the scenario in which they were involved May 24th, their involvement…the position of constable is essentially one step above a security guard.

  They serve civil paperwork. They act as a bailiff in a JP court and they assist other agencies. There is no scenario, by which regardless of their previous history, experience or education are

ever in a position where they give direction or take control of any event.  There is no scenario in which a sheriff or a police chief would defer to a constable,” Yeackle said.

   Yeackle continued saying, “At the end of the day, the people that have to be held accountable primarily was the shooter, the person that caused the act which was so heinous; he is criminally culpable; the individuals who were in charge or their relevant organizations that day, are accountable to the institutions that employ them, or in case of the county where I am your representative, to the voters since we do not supervise or control those individual offices.”

 “I feel like the bulk of the gentlemen and women were there that day, regardless of what they wish they could have done. It is a paramilitary organization and you follow the rules and you follow orders and you don’t have the luxury of making your own decisions no matter how awful the outcome is,” Yeackle said.

An accident involving three vehicles happened early this afternoon as police pursued a suspect vehicle that crashed into other vehicles on South Getty near the Post Office in downtown Uvalde. The accident caused delays and a temporary road closures as emergency responders attended to the scene.

  The Uvalde Police Department posted the following statement on its Facebook page: “UPD Officers and First responders are on scene of a three vehicle accident at Main & Getty St. Avoid the area possible and use alternate routes. The highway will be CLOSED for an unknown amount of time.” 

  An update was issued by Constable Emmanuel Zamora at 2:45 PM today stating that the roads were back open and the area was cleared. 

 The Uvalde Hesperian is currently gathering more information about this accident.

Friday, March 24th, 2023: A 2006 orange Mitsubishi passenger car was traveling eastbound on US 90 at mile marker 482 in Uvalde at approximately 10:09 PM .  Driver of the orange Mitsubishi passenger car was driving at an unsafe speed then lost control and struck a concrete barrier causing damage to the left side. The vehicle lost control and struck the barrier again causing damage all over the vehicle. The vehicle came to rest on US 90. Contributing factors: for the orange Mitsubishi –(Unsafe Speed).

Friday, March 24th, 2023: A 2012 black Jeep Wrangler sport utility vehicle was approaching a curve on FM 1023 Uvalde County approximately one mile east of Maryville Rd at approximately 11:01 PM. Vehicle fail to drive in its lane and continue straight through a curve. Vehicle left the roadway turned left and the vehicle overturned onto its right side. The vehicle came to rest up right facing north.  Contributing factors for the black Jeep Wrangler –(Unsafe Speed).  Driver and one passenger of the black Jeep Wrangler had minor injuries taken to the Uvalde Memorial Hospital
