A gathering of several dozen people assembled at the Cartender’s parking lot Saturday evening shortly after 6 PM Saturday to welcome Uvalde Coyote’s Quarterback Jett Flores home after being released from a San Antonio hospital.  On September 20th, Flores was airlifted to a hospital in San Antonio after being helmet struck by a Crystal City Javelina player at Friday night’s away game in Crystal City.

The Uvalde Hesperian spoke with Jett Flores’ father Leo “Chato” Flores who said he wanted to thank the many, many people for the outpouring of love and prayers and believes those prayers made all the difference.

UvaldeRadio.net announcer Simon Ortiz who was at the game said, “Jett was running an option sweep to his right when he decided to run with the ball. He turned the corner and was about to head upfield when one of the defensive players hit him around the shoulders and neck leading with his helmet. The CC player had a running start, and he did lead with the crown of his helmet which is called targeting. Nowadays that type of tackle is illegal.

Chato and Melissa Flores posted the following on their Facebook Page Saturday afternoon: “Our #4 is headed home! ETA 1 hr. Uvalde “home” has a whole different meaning to it!! We are blessed to be part of such an amazing community! Uvalde Strong”
