Recent rains in the upper parts of the Texas Hill Country brought much needed flow to area rivers including the Frio River this week.
The increased water brought a much welcomed rise to the Frio River to the delight of tubers and vacationers staying in Concan and at Garner State Park.
Events and Social Media Director Devan Caballero atAndy’s on River Road said,
“Our staff members floated from 7 Bluff Crossing to Kenneth Arthur Crossing, yesterday evening. The float was wonderful!
There were several spots along the route that were anywhere from 6-8 feet deep. I would say it was about 15% walking, which is fantastic compared to the 95% walking we had just about a week ago.
We are still praying for rain so that our guests and friends will have the opportunity to experience this float in the 2024 season. After the heavy rain falls we were seeing somewhere around 267 cfs. As of this morning, we are down to 32.3cfs.”
April Burgin who works at Buchanan Vacation Homes said, “People are excited. Lots of early check-in requests yesterday.”
Melissa Bates from Happy Hollow Frio River Outfitters said, “The Frio has received some much needed rain at the headwaters, this has started to replenish the Springs. We are currently shuttling floaters. The Happy Hollow Float is taking approximately 2 hours as of July 26, 2024. Please continue to Pray for Rain. ”
“The recent rain has raised the river levels, making it perfect for floating again. However, this might not last without more rain, so please check with local tubing outfitters for current conditions.
Remember, most of the riverbanks are private property, so it’s best to avoid floating on your own.
The outfitters are professionals and will ensure you have a safe and enjoyable tubing experience!”
