Uvalde Police Chief Daniel Rodriguez has submitted his resignation to Uvalde City Officials according to a report by the Uvalde Leader-News stating:
“Uvalde Police Chief Daniel Rodriguez resigned March 12 during a meeting with department staff. The resignation will take effect April 6, he said”
Rodriguez’s resignation came just hours before the Uvalde City Council meeting which was scheduled to be held later that evening. Rodriguez’s resignation and absence was brought up by Kimberly Rubio and Brett Cross.
Chief Rodriguez was out of town on vacation during the May 24th Robb School Tragedy. Uvalde Police Department Assistant Police Chief Mariano Pargas was on the scene of the massacre and served as the City’s acting police chief. Pargas has since resigned from the department.

UVALDE, TX – Today, City of Uvalde Mayor Cody Smith released the following statement after Uvalde Chief of Police Daniel Rodriguez announced his resignation, effective April 6th:
“The City of Uvalde is grateful to Chief Rodriguez for his 26 years of service to our community and we wish him the best as he pursues new career opportunities. Assistant Chief of Police Homer Delgado will be named Interim Chief of Police, as the City Manager and I undertake the search for a full-time replacement in consultation with the City Council. Nothing is more important than the safety of our community, and we look forward to working together to identify the best candidate to serve the people of Uvalde.”
