Uvalde, TX — The City of Uvalde Department of Arts, Culture, & Tourism is pleased to announce the addition of
Olga Charles as its new Visitor Experience Ambassador, effective May 27. In this role, Charles will be responsible
for the operation of the Visitor Center and giving tours.
Charles brings 14 years of experience in tourism, previously serving as Community Ambassador for the Chamber,
as well as Main Street Manager and Opera House Manager for the City. With a strong background in promoting
Uvalde and Uvalde’s history, she is expected to contribute significantly to the City’s new tourism program.
“We are thrilled to welcome Olga to the team,” said Caitlin Visel, Director of Arts, Culture, & Tourism. “She brings a wealth of knowledge and positive energy that aligns perfectly with our vision for the City’s tourism efforts.”
The plan for City staff to take on the Tourism Program was unanimously approved in the May 13 City Council
meeting. This plan has united the departments already doing smaller-scale tourism, which includes The Opera
House, Main Street, Civic Center, and Historic Preservation. The Visitor Center is now located in The Opera House, allowing visitors to be welcomed in the heart of downtown.
“We are really excited to be able to unite the different parts of our organization to promote the community that we love,” said Susan Anderson, Director of Planning & Community Development.
“I worked with Olga at the newspaper for many years, when she was the Newspapers in Education Coordinator. Her energy and knowledge of Uvalde was amazing. Children and adults just loved being around her. To be able to work again with Olga, and with her vast knowledge of Uvalde, will be wonderful. I look forward to working with her once again,” said Gloria Resma, Main Street Manager.
Charles is a native Uvaldean and has a passion for our community. She serves in many civic organizations,
including Kiwanis, Rotary, and The Chili Peppers.
“I love Uvalde, and I want people to come and visit,” said Charles. “Uvalde has so much history- please stop by and see me so I can give you a tour and share our history with you.”
