Texas State Representative District 49 (D) Gina Hinojosa posted a video on TikToK where she stated the passage of the School Voucher Bill will defund the Teachers Retirement System (TRS) funds.

“ACTUARIAL EFFECTS
According to the Teacher Retirement System (TRS), if a level headcount is maintained, it would not have an impact on expected funding progress for the system because TRS’ actuarial valuation already assumes a level headcount.
Rep. Hinojosa states, ” The voucher bill will take your tax dollars and use them to defund Texas teachers’ retirement system–and they are fighting to cover it up.”
“Texas Teachers may receive less benefits for the rest of their lives or Texas Teachers would have to pay more into the system or both could happen, Teachers could have to pay more into the system and get less,” Hinojosa said.
According to a report by the Austin American Statesman, Bill SB2 easily passed by the Texas Senate Wednesday night.
