Uvalde, TX — The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District (UCISD) is honored to announce its selection as a recipient of the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) FY 2024 STOP School Violence Program Competitive Solicitation. Awarded on November 8, 2024, this significant grant amounts to $1,000,000 over three years, enabling Uvalde CISD to fortify its commitment to ensuring a safe and nurturing educational environment for all students and staff.
Recognizing the profound impact of the Robb tragedy, a portion of the grant will be dedicated to providing wraparound services for students directly affected. These services will offer essential support to help students heal and thrive in their educational journey. Uvalde CISD is committed to fostering student leadership and engagement through community projects. Student groups will engage in action research to identify community needs, creating projects that address these issues and enhance students’ self-worth and connection to the community. This initiative aims to empower students and encourage them to positively impact their community.

The Uvalde Unity Project: Promoting Safety Through Service-Learning is a cornerstone of this initiative. Focusing on implementing a holistic trauma-recovery model, the project will provide focused support for 360 students and broader interventions, reaching 720 students impacted by mass violence in grades 1 through 9. UCISD will adopt safety strategies to increase attendance, reduce behavior incidents, and improve school climates, preventing future violence in schools and the Uvalde community.
