Position as Part of the Guardian Initiative

Uvalde, Texas – June 10, 2024: The Uvalde Police Department is proud to announce the creation of a
dedicated Mental Health/Family Violence Police Investigator position as part of our comprehensive Guardian
Initiative. Detective Corporal Jessica Zamora, a seasoned officer with over seven years of experience in law
enforcement, has been appointed to this crucial role.
Corporal Zamora will collaborate closely with community partners to ensure that both adults and juveniles
receive the necessary support and attention during crises. Her primary focus will be on following up with
individuals who have experienced a mental health crisis or family violence situation, ensuring they receive the
appropriate assistance and resources they need.
Corporal Zamora holds two associate degrees from Southwest Texas Junior College (SWTJC) and has earned an
Advanced Peace Officer Certification. Recently, she has undergone extensive training with the Southwest
Texas Fusion Center, the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) Behavioral Threat Group, SAPD Family
Violence Unit, and SAPD Mental Health Unit. She is committed to bringing this successful model to Uvalde,
enhancing our ability to respond effectively to mental health and family violence incidents.
The Uvalde Police Department is also seeking additional community members to join this important initiative.
We are looking for mental health professionals, medical personnel, and clergy to collaborate on this project,
further strengthening our support network.
