Library’s Summer Reading Program begins today with special programs and activities: Tuesday, May 28th, 2024

We are kicking off our Summer Reading Program with several special Guests and Activities.

Join KLRN for a learning adventure and earn a badge for each activity station.

Kindness Activity: As a family create a Kindness Jar. Talk as a family about how you can show kindness to each other. Children can color or draw an act of kindness on each strip. They can also write their message. This activity will help children understand how to show kindness to others and to themselves. Collect a KLRN pin.

Cyberchase Green It up Recycled Calendar/ Magazine Fan: Green It Up is a hands-on program designed for children ages 6-8 to inspire a deep appreciation for nature, build STEM skills, and help them feel empowered to take action in their communities to care for the planet, just like their favorite characters from Cyberchase. Collect a Cyberchase Pin.

Cookie Monster Snack Activity: Decorate your cookie to look like Cookie Monster. Enjoy a snack with your family and collect your Sesame Street pin.

Families completing all three activities will receive a Hank & Emma Faye t-shirt with the completion of a quick survey. While supplies last. All families will also receive a Learn at Home bag to take home for more PBS KIDS related literacy activities.11:30-12 Meet & Greet with Emma Faye & Hank

Emma Faye Rudkin is former Ms. San Antonio and Founder & Executive Director of Aid the Silent. She works alongside her hearing dog, Hank.

Emma & Hank star in the digital series Hank & Emma Faye geared towards children 4-8 years old, hosted by Emma Faye Rudkin and her black lab, Hank.

Set in her lively playroom, Emma Faye communicates with kids through lessons of sign language, social emotional development, kindness and friendship.

Mr. Twisty and Face Painting: Looking to add some magic and color to your day? Look no further! We’re thrilled to bring back Mr. Twisty,  talented balloon twister and his friend, face painter extraordinaire.

 Balloon Twisting: Watch in awe as Mr. Twisty creates intricate balloon animals, hats, and whimsical characters that bring joy to all ages. Whether it’s a simple puppy or an elaborate superhero, there’s no limit to the imagination!

 Face Painting: From butterflies and princesses to superheroes and spooky creatures, they can can do it all Using high-quality, skin-friendly paints, every design is a masterpiece that will delight kids and adults alike.

Aimed at preschoolers, “Curious George” inspires children to explore science, engineering, and math in the world around them. And what better guide is there for this kind of exploration than the world’s most curious monkey? George lives to find new things to discover, touch, spill, and chew.
