A thunderstorm system brought Uvalde and parts of the Texas Hill Country about an inch and a half of rain earlier this morning with heavy to moderate rainfall occurring in Uvalde from 9 am until about noon.
“Severe thunderstorms along US Hwy 90 from Del Rio to Uvalde continue to drift north-northeast with time. Primary hazards are very large hail up to 3 inches and damaging wind gusts.”
A severe thunderstorm warning was in effect for the northeastern part of Uvalde County until 11 AM
During the Uvalde County Commissioners Court Meeting this morning, the sound of rain and thunder could be heard during the proceedings. At about 11:30 AM the power went out at the local HEB causing the entire store to go dark for a few seconds before the power came back on.
At 10:34, the National Weather Service Office of Austin/ San Antonio posted:
“An area of severe thunderstorms continues to move northeast at 25 to 30 mph as we move through the late morning hours. The primary hazards with these storms is large hail, damaging wind gusts, and frequent lightning. Stay weather aware as we go through the day.”
Monday morning rainfall and heavy cloud cover prompted drivers on East Main Street in Uvalde to drive with their headlights on.
