Uvalde County will be hosting the first public meeting on Tuesday May 21, 2024 at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in person at the Workforce Center located at 216 W. Main St., Uvalde TX.
In coordination with the Middle Rio Grande Development Council, the Counties of Dimmitt, Edwards, Kinney, La Salle, Maverick, Real, Uvalde, Val Verde, and Zavala are updating their Hazard Mitigation Action Plan (“Plan” or “HMAP”) that will address natural hazards that impact the area.  Participating counties include: Dimmitt, Edwards, Kinney, La Salle, Maverick, Real, Uvalde, Val Verde, and Zavala and the Cities of: Big Wells, Brackettville, Camp Wood, Carrizo Springs, Cotulla, Crystal City, Del Rio, Eagle Pass, Encinal, Fort Clark Springs, Leakey, Rock Springs, Sabinal, Spofford, and Uvalde.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) defines Mitigation as sustained actions taken to reduce or eliminate long-term risk to people and property from hazards and their effects. Therefore, the goal of the Plan is to minimize or eliminate the long-term risk to human life and property from known hazards through effective mitigation.
The purpose of the public meeting is to provide a project overview from H2O Partners, Inc., consultant to the project, and solicit information from citizens. Public input will help the project team to analyze potential hazards affecting residents and recommend possible actions to reduce their impact.
