New weight room equipment unveiled at Uvalde High School as part of the Iron Sharpens Iron athletic program

  The Uvalde CISD Athletic Department unveiled the brand new weight equipment which was made possible by a generous benefactor, Samuel “Fin” Ewing who contributed approximately $200,000 to the district last fall.

 The Texas High School Coaches Association  (THSCA )and Fin Ewing  Monday, April 15th at Noon unveiled the brand new weight room they are installing at Uvalde  High  School as part of their Iron Sharpens Iron program. 

  A special open house and presentation of the new weight equipment was held today which was attended by Mr. Fin Ewing and Joe Martin of the Texas High School Coaches association along with Superintendent Ashley Chohlis and Trustees JJ Suarez, Anabel White, and Cal Lambert as well as the District’s coaches, staff and members of the media. 

  According to a Browser Graves of Graves Taxidermy, a contribution to the district was discussed by he and his client Ewing whom, after the May 24th Robb School Tragedy wanted to do something to help the community. Graves said Ewing first thought of paying for the funeral expenses of the victims of the Robb School, but was informed those expenses were already covered. In a later conversation, Ewing, who is connected to the Cotton Bowl Football tournament, asked about the High School weight room and the existing equipment there.  Graves said he told Ewing the school could use new equipment. According to District Trustee Anabel White, the District officially approved accepting the gift of the equipment at a school board meeting in the Fall of 2023. 

  According to the Uvalde High School athletic director, athletes from Uvalde High School and Morales Middle School used the existing weight room equipment but with the new equipment in place, the old equipment could be transferred to the Junior High.
