Top Photo: A board with the words “ Uvalde Wrong” written in big black letters was seen along the trail in the area where the homeless camps were situated.

The homeless camps which we’re situated along the trail that runs along side the Leona River inside the wooded area just south of Uvalde Memorial Park are gone and the property owned by the City has been cleaned up according to Uvalde Police Department’s Public Information Officer Fernando Fernandez, he said,

“Yes, on Friday, April 5th, 2024, we had officers go to that area, and by the time officers arrived, two individuals cleaned up some of the remaining items. All individuals left voluntarily, and no police action was taken. While officers were out there, they observed there was a site further down passed the city limit line.  The City of Uvalde Parks Department did go out there to clean up the city property.

As for the other area, we notified our city officials of the findings. They will be contacting the respective agency for that property,”

The trail extends beyond the City’s to privately owned property where a sizable amount of various items and trash remain.

The Hesperian visited the area once again on Tuesday, April 9th,  and encountered one homeless person who has broke camp but was visiting the area.

He stated that on Monday, April 8th, Uvslde Memorial Park had many eclipse tourists and over two dozen walked down  the path along the river where the camps were located.

Whe visiting the site, the Hesperian observed two Uvalde Police Officers responding to a allenged incident between two individuals who frequent the area.
