Uvalde Elementary School Principal Christy Perez sent a letter to parents on Monday, April 1st about an incident occurring on campus where a student was found to have brought bullets to school to show to friends.

The letter reads,  “As we approach the final weeks of the school year, it is imperative to reach out to you,
seeking your support in a matter of utmost importance. A concerning incident occurred
today, in which a student brought bullets to school to show to friends. This event
highlights the critical need for us to work together to ensure the safety and well-being of
all our students.

In light of this, please engage in a thoughtful conversation with your child(ren) about the
seriousness of bringing prohibited or inappropriate items to school. Students must
understand the serious consequences that can arise from such actions, not only for
themselves but for the entire school community. As parents and guardians, your
influence is important in reinforcing the values of responsibility and awareness.
Our goal is to foster a safe and conducive learning environment for all students, and this
can only be achieved with your partnership. By discussing these matters openly with
your child(ren), you help to build their knowledge and empower them to make wise
decisions. Please rest assured that the school is taking all necessary steps to address
this issue and prevent future occurrences.

Your support is greatly appreciated. Together, we can ensure that our school remains a
safe and vibrant place for learning and growth. Should you have any concerns or wish
to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
Thank you for your attention to this matter and your ongoing partnership in your
child(ren)’s education.
Sincerely,
Christy Perez
School Principal”
