Monday’s December 11th midday emergency response to the Oasis Outback store and restaurant over an explosive device which appeared to be some type of military shell was  found on a BBQ pit has been tied to a campaign visit by the U.S. Congressional Candidate Brandon Herrera.

Herrera is a District 23 Congressional Candidate running in the 2024 Republican Primaries against incumbent Tony Gonzales.

On Herrera’s website, the following statement was issued on the incident: “OASIS OUTBACK, UVALDE

“Yesterday, 12/10/23, the Brandon Herrera campaign had a successful series of campaign events culminating with a rally at the Oasis Outback in Uvalde.

At the event, a generous fan brought Brandon an inert, spent dummy shell as a gag gift that Brandon had fired in one of his videos. Brandon’s campaign then re-gifted to the round to another fan who failed to collect it at the conclusion of the event as attendees were being ushered out.

At no point was the spent shell a threat to anyone. We regret any confusion or disturbance this caused.

Oasis Outback is a safe, friendly venue whether you’re looking for fishing lures, a rifle, or a good plate of BBQ. We look forward to returning and are encouraging everyone in the Uvalde community to do the same.

The incident resulted in dozens of customers being evacuated from the business and restaurant. The Uvalde Hesperian arrived on scene and saw many people leaving the building and a woman nearby was overheard saying, “I think we should get out of here.”

Uvalde Police Chief Daniel Rodriguez stated the artillery shell was from the Ox Ranch,  which is a large hunting ranch located in a remote area of Uvalde County off Highway 55.  The Ox Ranch also is the location for Drive Tanks.Com

Uvalde County Constable Emmauel Zamora posted this on his Facebook Page: “The scene was declared safe by the San Antonio Bomb Squad.”

It appears no arrests have been made in connection to the incident.

A small group was seen just outside Oasis Outback, where one man was overheard saying the shell may have fallen off a truck.

According to an article about Herrera on the website, www.bearingarms.com, it states,  “One of those is Brandon Herrera. His channel boasts 2.84 million subscribers and, frankly, his content is pretty fun. He’s likely making a pretty good living as a “guntuber.’ He’s also a builder specializing in AK-pattern firearms, which I imagine does pretty well, too.”
