In front of a nearly full city council meeting, Cody Smith was sworn in shortly aften Mayor Don McLaughlin sitting with a small child who gaveled Tuesday night’s meeting to order. Following the swearing in ceremony, Smith praised Mayor McLaughlin for his service to the City especially during the difficult times following the Robb School Tragedy. Smith having served as Mayor previously, will not be a stranger to the City of Uvalde. Smith and Mclaughlin stood together as McLaughlin was handed a plaque before the assembly. Following the ceremony, Smith and the Uvalde City Council members went into Executive Session for a time before the Council reconvened into open session to consider and discuss the City’s business for that evening.
During the meeting, Smith recommended to the council that the City not raise the Cemetery fees to the over $1000 proposed at the meeting during an often tense and passionate discussion about types of markers allowed and the proposed price increase for cemetery plots and fees associated with the different types of markers.
