Uvalde CISD announces Ashley Chohlis named as lone finalist for superintendent position

Uvalde CISD Board of Trustees has announced the naming of Ashley Chohlis as the Lone Superintendent Finalist. The Board retained the services of the Education Service Center, Region 20, for assistance in conducting the superintendent search to thoroughly and diligently vet all of the applicants it considered. The decision was made during a special board meeting held on November 6, 2023, where the board unanimously voted in her favor. The waiting period of 21 days is now initiated, and it is anticipated that Ashley Chohlis will sign a contract on or after November 27, 2023, and begin work as the new superintendent of Uvalde CISD.

  Ashley Chohlis has 28 years of experience in education and is currently serving as the superintendent of Poth Independent School District, a rural district. She has earned a Bachelor of Science in Child Development and Family Relationships from the University of Texas at Austin and a master’s in educational administration from Texas A&M-Kinsgville. In 2014, she completed the superintendent certification program with the University of Texas at Tyler.

  In a statement, Ashley Chohlis expressed her excitement for serving alongside the exceptional educators already working hard for Uvalde CISD. She thanked the board of trustees and the community for their confidence and faith in her to take on this remarkable opportunity. Ashley has been married to Shaon for 19 years and has four children, an adult son Dillon, twin daughters, Callaghan and Berkley, seniors at East Central’s CAST Lead High School, and a son, Canyon, who is in ninth grade.

  Luis Fernandez, President of the Uvalde CISD Board of Trustees, shared his gratitude towards Mr. Patterson for leading their district for over a year. He thanked him for his leadership and experience during their transition period. He expressed his confidence in Ashley Chohlis, saying she is committed to providing the best possible education for the students in Uvalde CISD. Fernandez believes that Ashley Chohlis will bring her passion and dedication to the role and make a positive impact on the education system in our district.
