DEL RIO – THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY (DPS): is investigating a two-vehicle Fatal Crash that occurred on October 31, 2023, at approximately 6:45 a.m., on US 90 and FM 1049 in Knippa Tx., Uvalde County. Preliminary investigation revealed a 1978 black Jeep was stopped on FM 1049 on the north side of US 90 and proceeded south.
A 1998 white Chevrolet trailblazer was traveling eastbound on US 90 in the outside lane approaching US 90 and FM 1049 intersection. The black Jeep failed to Yield the Right of Way at the Stop Sign, it proceeded south and collided with the white Chevrolet Trailblazer traveling in the outside lane of US 90. The Chevrolet Trailblazer was unable to avoid the collision. T
The driver of the black Jeep was ejected from the vehicle and came to rest in the bar ditch as a result of the collision.
The driver of the black Jeep was Scott Mcillwain, 64, from Knippa Texas, who was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver from the red Chevrolet Trailblazer Jorge Rodriguez was injured, 25 from Edinburg, Texas. Rodriguez was taken Uvalde Medical Center in Uvalde. DPS Troopers continue to investigate this fatal crash.
