Risa told the Uvalde Hesperian he attended last night’s Nueces Canyon ISD board meeting and introduced himself as a person interested in the position. According to Risa, someone speaking on behalf of the board told him he was the 1st person to present to the board in the past 15 years.

The Uvalde County Commissioners Court nominated Risa as their candidate for the UCAD seat and later voted to cast that entity’s 331 votes to Risa in September 2023.  On September 9th, 2023 at the Uvalde CISD board meeting, the trustees cast its 212 votes to Luis Fernandez. Knippa ISD  with 50 votes and Southwest Texas Junior College with 48 votes  will be holding their meetings this coming Thursday, October 19th, to decide what candidate will receive their respective UCAD votes.

Risa now has a total of 359 votes which means he is the unofficial winner of the UCAD open seat.
