Driver fails to maintain lane striking fence

  DEL RIO – THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY (DPS) is investigating a one-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on October 11, 2023, at approximately 4:20 p.m., on SH-55 approximately 17 miles north of Uvalde near mile post 528 in Uvalde County. Preliminary investigation revealed a 2011 Ford special edition sport utility vehicle was traveling northbound on State Highway 55. The Ford SUV Fail to drive a single lane and veered to the right of the roadway.

  The Ford continued driving on the northbound grassy area without breaking and struck a dirt embankment. The Ford then turned right and rolled counterclockwise striking a fence and came to rest upside down facing northeast.  Due to injuries sustained the driver of the Ford SUV sport vehicle, Santos Morales Garza, 71, from Eagle Pass was transported to Uvalde County Memorial Hospital. Garza was later pronounced deceased at the Hospital.

  DPS Troopers continue to investigate this fatal crash.
