Friday, August 18th makes the end of the first week of school of the 2023-2024 school year for Uvalde CISD students.  While many students and teachers were seen at Uvalde Elementary School  with big smiles, parents who picked up and droped off students this week at the different Uvalde Campuses have expressed mixed opinions about their respective experiences. Some parents shared their frustrations while others have said the drop off and pick up process wasn’t bad. Still others described specific concerns and issues.

One parent named Carlos, who owns a restaurant in town, arrived over an hour early at Dalton School just to get in front of the car queue in order to pick up his child. Carlos stated he’s found the wait to pick up a student can be an hour or longer to pick up a student if one arrives closer to the school’s dismissal time.

The Uvalde Hesperian posted the following question on its Facebook page: “Anyone having difficulties with the pick-up and drop-off arrangements and policies at Uvalde CISD Campuses?”

See post and all responses at facebook.com/UvaldeHesperian or see post embed below.

One parent said, “UDLA and Flores have been great!” Another said, “All the drop-offs have been ridiculous.”

Others have stated they believe the pick-up and drop-off process will get better as the school year goes on.

The Uvalde Hesperian has reached out to the Uvalde CISD administration requesting a statement on the pick-up and drop-off situation and is currently awaiting a response.
