Suspicious person brandishing a pellet gun causes lockdowns of downtown businesses in Uvalde

Suspect apprehended at his residence this evening on Thursday, May 5th, 2023

 A man brandishing what looked like a rife was seen walking around the Uvalde County Courthouse and around the downtown area earlier this evening about 5 PM. According to a local downtown business owner, many downtown businesses closed their businesses upon hearing about the suspect being spotted in the vicinity.

  Downtown Businesses and Schools are lockdown due to a suspicious person seen downtown walking with a rifle.
UPDATE: 5 pm – Uvalde PD spoke to several witnesses at the Kincaid and the immediate vicinity. Several reports indicated the suspicious male entered a vehicle and left the area. UPD is attempting to identify the vehicle and owner. Any other questions or information to help the case, please call UPD at 830.279.9147.
UPDATE: 4:50 pm – UPD attempting to make contact w/ male subject identified as Mauricio Alvarez. Police has not found him. Large police presence around the Kincaid Hotel.
UPDATE: 4:43 pm Male subject seen thru video surveillance, and the weapon was identified as a BB gun. Last seen around the Kincaid Hotel.

LAST UPDATE: 5:28 PM – Uvalde PD confirmed the weapon as a pellet gun. Officers made contact with the male subject in person.
