National Protest against Gun Violence on Friday may account for Uvalde CISD attendance drop

Word of a possible student walkout protest was obtained by the Uvalde Hesperian Thursday evening, March 30th from a reliable source. Upon further inquiries the planned school walkout, it was learned that  the walkout was part of a larger nationwide protest for Transgender Rights and against Gun Violence.  It wouldn’t be clear until later on Friday, March 31st how many parents would not be sending their children to school that day.

Upon reaching out to Uvalde CISD on the attendance numbers, according to Anne Marie Espinoza the Executive Director of Communications and Marketing of Uvalde CISD, the district wide attendance that day was 70.28 % down from 84.43%.

There were some Uvalde CISD students who did participate from school property.
