UVALDE, TEXAS – On February 24, 2023, Uvalde High School Mariachi Los Coyotes received a 1st Division at the UIL State Mariachi Festival in Seguin, Texas. The 2022-2023 ensemble made history by being the 1st group from Uvalde High School to compete at the State Level.
The varsity group is composed of four freshmen, eight sophomores, two juniors, and five seniors. “The contest on Friday, February 24, 2023, was a buildup of anxiety, nervousness and fear of the unknown, but that all came to a full 180 when results were read and we now had tears of joy! A full roller coaster of emotions, to say the least, but the kiddos represented Uvalde CISD and the entire city of Uvalde, Texas with pride and have made a name for themselves by being the 1st Uvalde High School Mariachi in Uvalde CISD history to bring home the GOLD!”, said Mr. Albert Martinez, Director of Mariachi Los Coyotes. It truly takes a village, and we are blessed to have an amazing support system of administrators, counselors, teachers, and parents who will go the extra mile in order to see ALL students succeed.
Uvalde High School Mariachi Los Coyotes was formed in 1999 and have been performing in Uvalde, Texas since. They have touched the hearts of the people of the Hill Country by sharing their culture and traditions. Their passion and dedication to keep Mariachi music alive and well in Uvalde have exceeded expectations. We never lost the faith, “I Believe in U, Loyal, and True, and Always Rep The U!”
