Newport News Public School District & Select Administration From Richneck Elementary School In Newport News, Virginia Have Confirmed This Week; A Safety & Collaborative Support Meeting With Foundation Executive Team Members, Thursday, January 26th 2023, Via ZOOM.

In Discussions On Current & Future School Safety Training & Student Well Being, Parent/Student/Teacher Concerns Will Be Addressed & Integrated.

The Uvalde Foundation For Kids Will Be Providing An Official Report As Developed.

“As The Community Of Newport News and The Extended National Community Continue To Seek Answers and Healing Following The Recent School Shooting Wounding Teacher Abby Zwerner In Newport News Last Week – The Uvalde Foundation For Kids Continues To Communicate With Newport News School Officials & The Newport News Community On Collaborative Support Resources, Including Providing Additional Counseling Support & Ongoing School Violence Training & Preparedness Resources.

 

We Applaud Newport News Public Schools’ Efforts & Focus On Providing Care For Their Teachers, Students, Parents & The Greater NNPS Community.

Our Foundation President, Dr. Michael Stevens, Myself, and Our Board & Staff From Across The Country Stand Committed In This Collective Endeavor.

While Our Foundation Understands That The Local & School Community Have Many Questions Requiring Answers, Particularly How A 6-Year-Old Obtained & Brought A Gun Into His 1st Grade Classroom – Our Foundation Suggests That The Question Should Extend Beyond This To How Do We Change The Culture & Mentality Of Our Youth From Seeing Violence As A Way To Express Anger or Pain? WHEN We Begin To The Ask Different Questions Such As These & Change This Culture Of Violence – GUNS Will Not Be An Option To Our Students.

It is Understandable In Our Search For Answers to Seek a Scapegoat – Someone or Something to Blame. Collectively America – We All Hold The Responsibility For What Happened In Newport News & In Schools Across This Nation. Change The Questions & Solutions Can Happen.”
