San Antonio and Houston news outlets report of Uvalde’s grocery store remodel misleading
The $10 million dollar planned “remodel” of HEB’s grocery store in Uvalde does not mean a HEB Plus or a new updated storefront is in the works as the headlines and picture from several San Antonio news outlets and one major Houston Newspaper had reported last Thursday.
According to H-E-B Public Affairs Manager Julie Bedingfield informed the Uvalde Hesperian the store’s refrigeration systems is the only thing that will be upgraded.
“This is for upgrading our refrigeration systems. We do not do press releases for this kind of work.” Bedingfield wrote.
KSAT.com published a news report on September 15th, 2022 with the headlines, “Uvalde H-E-B location to undergo $10 million remodel” and “The multimillion dollar upgrade will begin on October 31st”
The article continued with, “UVALDE – The H-E-B store in Uvalde is getting a $10-million facelift.”
The cited source for the KSAT.com article was the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation Filing. According to the filing, the type of work is listed as “Renovation/Alteration” while the scope of the work is listed as “Remodel existing HEB store”
Additionally, the photo used with the KSAT.com article shows the exterior of a HEB Plus! store located in another city.
In other news reports by out-of -town media sources, the term “remodel” is used but there is no reference that the remodel only includes the store’s refrigeration system.
For those thinking that Uvalde HEB will become a HEB plus! as part of the remodel, might feel left out in the cold.
