A Stone’s Throw by K. Irene (Carlisle) Stone, UHS Class of 78 June 14, 2022

Twenty-One Days, After is written in remembrance of the parents and family members who have grieved for three solid weeks. May we keep them in our prayers.

21 Days.

21 Days of pain.

21 Days of crying.

21 Days of praying for strength.

21 Days of asking for Grace.

21 Days of wishing I could hug my baby.

21 Days of saying goodbye.

21 Days of burials, one after another.

21 Days of whispering “I’ll see you soon.”

21 Days of looking for a sign you are here.

21 Days of calling your name.

21 Days of no answer, none.

21 Days how can you be gone?

21 Days … is it June already?

21 Days … I don’t know what day it is.

21 Days I forgot to do my chores.

21 Days I cannot face my work.

21 Days it doesn’t matter, not anymore.

21 Days I can’t get out of bed.

21 Days I can’t rest.

21 Days it’s hard to breath.

21 Days I forgot to brush my teeth, comb my hair, get dressed.

21 Days of looking up at the sky.

21 Days of closing my eyes.

21 Days of tearful prayers.

21 Days I feel Him nearby.

21 Days I grasp for His Hand.

21 Days He stands beside me as I cry.

21 Days the breeze ruffles my hair.

21 Days His Love washes over me.

21 Days I know He cares.

21 Days He dries my tears.

21 Days …

21 Days …

21 Days …is a thousand years.

21 Days …

21 Days …

21 Angels above me, below me, all around me …

#UvaldeStrong – we will never forget, no matter how many days.
