UC Commissioners Court votes to hire an independent 3rd party to investigate Sheriffs Department’s policies and procedures

Uvalde County Commissioner’s Court Early News Brief

The Uvalde County Commissioners Court approved a motion to hire an independent outside person or entity to investigate the Uvalde County Sheriff’s Department regarding its policies and procedures pertaining to the Robb School shooting.

Diana Olvedo-Karau and Jesus “Jessie” Rizo spoke during public comments pertaining to this agenda item.

Commissioners court is unclear if the Uvalde County Sheriff’s Office has an active shooter policy in place.

Commissioner John Yeackle stated that the County is in a weird position compared to other government entities like the City of Uvalde or the Uvalde CISD because it doesn’t have oversight over the Sheriff’s department. The County just controls the department’s budget.
