Uvalde area wells running dry prompting Uvalde City Council to update water rates: EAA issues Stage 3 alert

City to provide water to county residents: City moves to update bulk water rates for county residents buying water from the City of Uvalde

  The persistent drought is causing water shortages as wells south of town and west of town are running dry according to a Uvalde City official at Tuesday nights April 26th City Council Meeting. 

   In an effort to provide water to out of town country residents, the council approved amending the City’s existing ordinance’s bulk water purchasing rates which have not changed in the past 10 years. 

  “We want to have our water rates set so that we cover our contingencies.” a city official said at Tuesday’s City Council meeting. It was also stated that TDEM ( Texas Department of Emergency Management could help the city pay for its water costs.

According to the amended 2022 ordinance approved by the Uvalde City Council it reads, “WHEREAS, the City of Uvalde provides water service to its citizens, and

WHEREAS, in times of drought residents of Uvalde County may have wells go dry, WHEREAS, our fees for bulk water need to cover the fees that we pay to the Edwards Aquifer,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UVALDE,

TEXAS, THAT:

Section 1. Findings of Fact. The foregoing recitals are hereby found to be true and correct and are

hereby adopted by the City Council and made a part hereof for all purposes as findings of fact.

Section 2. Amend 13.16.025 to read:

  1. 1. Bulk potable water rates for city residents shall be $7.00 per 250 gallons.
  2. 2. Bulk potable water rates for nonresidents of the city that reside within Uvalde County shall

be $14.00 per 250 gallons. “

It was stated by a City official the process of county residents purchasing water works like a gas pump system.

 

 

 

 

 

EAA Declares Stage 3 Permit Reductions for the Uvalde Pool

San Antonio, TX – The Edwards Aquifer Authority (EAA) declares Stage 3 Critical Period Management permit reductions for Uvalde County under the purview of the Edwards Aquifer Authority within the Uvalde Pool effective Wednesday, July 27, 2022. It was officially confirmed that the 10-day average at the J-27 index well fell below 845 to 844.8 feet above mean sea level. Hence, the EAA formally declares Stage 3 permit reductions.
