Only a few hours notice given before today’s Emergency Uvalde City Council Meeting
The Uvalde City Council called an emergency meeting today with one item on their agenda: Consider Reissuing the Mayor’s Declaration of Local State of Disaster due to an Emergency. According to a Uvalde City employee, when asked over the phone when this meeting was announced, the person said the meeting was posted this morning a few hours before the meeting.
Those on the Uvalde City Council who attended the meeting were Mayor Don McLaughlin, Councilman Stephen Balke, Councilman Everardo “Lalo” Zamora, Councilman Hector Luevano and Councilman Ernest “Chip” King. Absent from this meeting was newly elected City Councilman Pedro “Pete” Arredondo. The Council voted to approve the agenda item. The meeting lasted about two and a half minutes before a motion to adjourn was approved.
Following the council’s adjournment, Mayor Don McLaughlin said, “To the press, I’ll answer a few questions , but my biggest concern again is for the families. I don’t have answers for you for the investigation: it is ongoing. We want the same answers that you do. When we get those, we will share them gladly. I can’t answer questions where the investigation is, where it is going,”
Following Mayor McLaughlin’s remarks, the City of Uvalde’s Facebook video feed abruptly ended.
It is not known if the reporters who attended the meeting asked the Mayor any questions after the meeting adjourned.
