Darkest Day of Uvalde: The Nation and World embraces and mourns with Uvalde

The day after the Robb Elementary Shooting the citizens of the town have flooded Facebook and social media with pleas for prayer. On two business signs seen on Main Street (Highway 90 East) the words :”Pray for Uvalde” can be seen.  Local residents and those connected to Uvalde but live somewhere else have posted “Uvalde Strong” and written posts express the shock and disbelief many are grappling with. Haunting pictures of children missing from yesterday’s deadly shooting have been posted on Facebook.

As Uvalde CISD officials and grief counselors are at the SSGT Willie de Leon Civic Center meeting with parents breaking the the hardest news a parent can hear about their child.

It has been reported that the shooter shot an untold number of students at point blank range leaving DNA analysis as the only way to identify some.

As new reports emerge about what specifically happened at Robb Elementary, the news details seem to spiral into a dark and terrible abyss.

That said, this morning, hundreds flocked to the Herby Ham Activity Center to give blood in a blood drive conducted by the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center, donations of water, snacks and food have poured in.

Local officials and community leaders have received many calls from around the nation offering financial support to the community and affected families.

As of early this morning, calls from friends located in countries in Europe have come in as the news of Uvalde has quickly spread around the world.

While those lost cannot be brought back, the national and world are sending a clear message to Uvalde: “We care and we want to help.”
