School Shooting leaves Uvalde Citizens horrified and saddened

In a live press conference today, Texas Governor Greg Abbott named the suspect who perpetrated the fatal shooting of 15 people at Robb School near South High Street in Uvalde, Texas.

Salvador Ramos, an 18 year old resident of Uvalde entered the school shortly after 11 am this morning and opened fire on students and faculty leaving 14 students and one teacher dead.

In an interview with a neighbor living a few houses away from Robb School,  the neighbor stated his wife heard gunshots exactly at 11:31:40 seconds. Shortly after that time he saw a bunch of traffic show up and park along the side of the road and after that received a notification from the school that the school was in lockdown.

The Uvalde Hesperian arrived near Robb School approximately at 1:02 PM and at that time helicopters could be seen landing in a field near the school. Prior to arriving, on Hwy 83 South near the intersection of High Street school buses escorted by law enforcement vehicles were seen leaving the area. One of the buses was seen, stopped momentarily and even through closed windows children could be heard screaming and crying.

Uvalde ISD School Superintendent Hal Harrell was with law enforcement near the police perimeter and a few moments later met with police a few hundred yards from the front of Robb Elementary School.

The Old Super S Grocery store parking lot located on 300 West Main in Uvalde was filled with ambulances and emergency responders. The location was being used as a staging area.

El Progreso Library across the street was closed with a sign taped to the glass doors with the words, “Lock Down.”

Uvalde CISD issued the following statement on Facebook about 12:45 PM

Between 2:45 PM  and 3:45 PM, news stations from San Antonio and other locations outside of Uvalde started arriving at the SSGT Willie De Leon Civic Center for a press briefing which occurred  at 4:16 this afternoon. School officials and parents were allowed into the Civic Center. Several parents entering the Civic Center were crying and appeared to be in a state of shock.

Between 11:30 PM and throughout the afternoon, there were some speculative reports on  Facebook and social media channels that there was an active school shooting situation at the High School but that report was proven to be false.

In a radio report heard on WOAI 12oo AM, it was reported that two students were transported by AirLife to one or more San Antonio Hospitals.
