College creative arts award ceremony split into two

Media Release provided by SWTJC

Uvalde, TX, April 21, 2022 – The SWTJC Creative Arts Awards Ceremony is slated for Tuesday, April 26, at the MSC Ballroom at the Uvalde campus.

“This year, we have decided to do things differently,” said Ismael Martinez, contest organizer. “The awards ceremony will be split in two. The first part will consist of awarding medals to the Pre-K – 6th-grade winners, which begins at 6 p.m. The second part, which begins at 7:30 p.m., will include winners from 7th grade – Community divisions.”

According to Martinez, the decision to change the format is to minimize the number of people in an enclosed area.

“The idea to split the ceremony had been entertained in the past because of logistics,” said Martinez. “This year, it made perfect sense to split the ceremony now that COVID-19 is a part of any event planning.”

Medals will be awarded to first through fourth places in all age groups and categories. Overall literary and visual arts winners will be awarded a cash prize of $20 in each age group.

Winners have been emailed notifying them. In keeping with tradition, places will not be announced until the awards ceremonies on April 26.
