Additional details about the high speed chase that occurred near Garner Field Road around 10 am have been learned. According to a Facebook post and picture by Rene Nolasco, the suspect involved crashed an older model Ford F-150 Truck into a fence at Garner Field Road. According to City of Uvalde Assistant City Manager Joe Cardenas in a phone interview, due to law enforcement vehicles driving onto Garner Field property, the two runways were temporarily closed to departing and arriving aircraft. This action was taken as a safety precaution. In a phone call to the airport office, it was learned the closure was only for a short period of time and as of today, Garner Field and its runways are open.
Other unconfirmed reports from various individuals on Facebook have said the police pursuit lead eastbound on Hwy 9o through Knippa prior to the suspect’s vehicle crashing into the fence at Garner Field. According to information received Tuesday afternoon from Sheriff Rubin Nolasco, one person was at large at that time.
