Uvalde County Commissioners purchase new equipment for Sheriff’s Department

    Uvalde County Commissioners approved moving forward with tree trimming work and preparing the interior for future renovation of the office space located at 521 East Nopal Street. 

    According to the Uvalde County Appraisal District (UCAD), the county took ownership of the property on February 15th, 2022. 

    The commissioners approved a bid from Jones Tree Trimming for $16,500 to trim all the trees on the property, raise the tree canopies and remove a dead tree. It was stated in the meeting the property has 15 trees.

   Additionally, the commissioners approved a bid of $15,500 from Circle T Services for the demolition of the interior of the office building on the same property. The demolition of the interior includes the removal of existing plumbing and carpet.  In another related agenda item, the commissioners approved a Buy-Board Contract for installation of technology for the building, including an alarm system with security cameras and access systems for the building.  The building will become the new offices for the District Attorney offices, to accommodate its 12 person staff.

   The total project of approved tree work and demolition work for the 521 East Nopal property is $48,848 to be funded by the Operation Lone Star Grant.

   In other business, the Commissioners Court approved acting on several Buy Board contracts purchasing new radios, hand-held radios, laptop computers, and the purchase of 100 Stop Sticks for the Uvalde County Sheriff’s Office.   The funding of $111,579.85 for the equipment purchase for the Uvalde County Sheriff’s office will come from the Operation Lone Star grant. 

  According to the minutes from the Commissioners Court January 24th, 2022, the Commissioners Court approved and accepted a two year grant in the amount of $3 ,301,932.91 approved by the Governor of Texas and through collaborative efforts with the offices of the Uvalde Police Department, Sabinal Police Department, County Sheriff, County Attorney, District Judge, County Judge, District Clerk and County Clerk for the purpose of prosecuting border crimes including drug smuggling, human trafficking, criminal trespass and evading arrest and detention.
