Board meets to discuss hiring new Executive Director and other business

The Texas Hill Country River Region (THCRR) board met today at 2:00:pm and was attended by approximately 30 people consisting of the board members, Concan business owners and the public. THCRR Board President Jamie Vaden Holmes led the meeting.

Of the several agenda items, was the discussion about the recent resignation and departure of THCRR Executive Director Annabell McNew. Of the action items on the agenda, the board approved the decision to have board president Holmes and Melissa Bates oversee the day to day (duties) of the Executive Director until a new director is hired.

“We don’t want to fill it out of haste. It’s critical we find the right person for the position.” Holmes said.

Holmes went on to say the position would not be posted for the next two weeks.

The board also discussed the importance of getting an accurate and up-to-date list of Hotel Occupancy Tax  (HOT) paying businesses from the Uvalde County Commissioners in order to know who is eligible to vote as members of the THCRR. Holmes stated it’s been 18 months to two years waiting to get an up-to-date HOT taxpayer list from the Uvalde County Commissioners. “We have to get it from the county because they are the collection of records.” Holmes said.

(Update 3-16-22)  THCRR board president Holmes reports the HOT Tax list of paying businesses has been received from the Uvalde County Commissioners Court.

Holmes stated they would act to get the matter on the Uvalde County Commissioners Court calendar.

The board also discussed issues and concerns about THCRR river clean-up. “We would like to expand efforts to have river clean-up in the off season.” Holmes said.

The next tentative board meeting is slated for April 26th, 2022.
